The Official Needles and Grooves 1001 Album Generator Project

This is outstanding, it’s like the glam link to Heroes and Low. Iggy’s voice and cadence gives it all a very Velvet Underground/Lou Reed feel.

I’ve liked most of what I have heard by Pop, which before this year was the occasional whatever song on radio or MTV. I have Lust for Life but don’t feel like I’ve ever given it the attention it needed. I grabbed a copy of Post Pop Depression because cheap and Homme. I’ve been digging through the Stooges because I’ve been reading Bangs.

This is the thing I have liked the most on first listen. It’s just out there and very Bowie but different. Even China Girl, the melody is the same but played by a band somewhere between the glam of Alladin and the first side of Heroes. There’s a harder edge to it and the entire album.

Mass Production is just stunning.

I love this.
I bought this one and Lust For Life at the same time maybe five years ago, when they had new vinyl reissues, and both are excellent.

I've also seen him in concert twice and it's always amazing to watch him up there on stage because he's older than my Dad but somehow he's still going strong.

I did not get a chance to listen to this last night or this morning. I am absolutely certain that one youtube listen while at work is not the ideal way to listen to this and that I will want and need to spend time with it in the future. I know it sounds great, but I figured that going in knowing both artists. Think is Scott-Heron very much needs attention to the lyrical content. Not sure I will feel comfortable scoring this. May just come back to it later. Anyone got recommendations on a pressing that won't kill the bank since nothing seems to currently be available.

Tortoise - Millions Now Living Will Never Die

Not my favorite Tortoise album buts excellent nonetheless. Tortoise drummer, John McEntire has been a central figure in Chicago underground rock scene for the better part of 30 years.

hey it's #n&gcore - did I do that right, @Rip_City? ;)
Of course 🤗

A fantastic post-rock record, to boot. Takes you on a wordless journey, as most in the genre should set out to do. I can't quite say it is a 5 like TNT (the true Needles&GroovesCore of Tortoise's discography), as TNT has more moments that stick with you. But...

Rating: 4.5/5 [Outstanding]

I'll admit that it is my favorite of theirs.

2 drummers named John in the band. Don’t forget Johnny Machine.

It is a great record, though not as good as TNT or Standards. I love the 4 remixes that came off of this as well.

This is one of those bands where I've seen the name mentioned throughout the 90's...but honestly I have no idea what they even sound like. I see the first track is 20 minutes long soo...here we go!

Tortoise - Millions Now Living Will Never Die

This is the album of there's that I started with.
20+ years after buying it for the first time, I still have great things to say about it. I enjoy the willingness to stretch and create the sonic landscapes that they do.
However, it is also a fantastic gateway to the more jazz-driven TNT or the heavier hitting Standards.
If you get to see them love, jump at it because it is really something to watch. I had the opportunity in '04 to see them and I was amazed when they played "Djed" how effortless it was for them to turn a studio experiment into a fully cohesive performance.

I can see why I never heard this before. Nothing on there screams radio or MTV play. I was honestly expecting it to be more post rock sounding and not quite as electronic. Not generally a fan of instrumental post rock but this was fine. It probably would take more closer listens for things to stand out. Right now I'll say 3/5.
