The Official Needles and Grooves 1001 Album Generator Project

I still say 1.6 is too high for that Casanova bullshit. It is the least deserving album on the list so far. Even if I dislike the Robbie WIlliams, it was a moment in time and evidently massive.

I sometimes like reading through the general reviews, I don’t know why, there are some really knob heads out there, but this one of Robbie Williams made me chuckle:

“I’m not originally from the UK so I asked my wife what it is that I don’t get about this Robbie Williams album, it’s really shit. She answered, you’re not a middle age woman who wants to sleep with him”

Robbie Williams - Life Through a Lens

I should have known better than to start my day with this one... now I'm just grumpy. On the plus side, I guess: things can only improve from here!

Derivative, overproduced and very poorly written. I kept hoping for him to blow his voice right out on one of the many occasions he forces it so much. We could all be so lucky.

1/5

I'm surprised one of the fake Christian far right Republican assholes running for president hasn't co-opted "One of God's Better People" as a campaign slogan yet.

I don't know that I've ever heard as much unnatural forcing of the voice at every karaoke night I've been to, combined.

Bad Company

I'm sure I'd feel differently if I were born 10 years earlier but this doesn't do a whole heck of a lot for me. I don't hate it, but I don't see myself seeking it out much either. 2.5/5 (round down)

Adam and the Ants - Kings of the Wild Frontier

What an uninspiring stretch of albums this ends. I get there a project like this is gonna have duds, but 3 or 4 in a row is a churn - especially when playing catch-up!

This is very unmemorable and unremarkable, but a million times better than Robbie Williams. 2/5

So this hasn’t always been my favourite Joni, despite others loving it.

I’ve actually always found this a very difficult album to listen to. Even for Joni everything is very high up in the register and it can be musically quite challenging.

I’ll try to give it another go this evening in the car on the way home from work.

Nice background music.

When I listened intently, she seems like a very good storyteller.

I liked the use of percussion in 'The Jungle Line'.

3 / 5 stars.

She is a very good storyteller. I maintain that whilst she may not have peaked as consistently, or for as long a period, as some others at her peak Joni is the best lyricist I’ve encountered. She paints pictures in my mind.

I really like this, I don’t know if it is just me becoming better acclimated to her peculiarities or what but this is the most enjoyable first listen I’ve ever had. She still feels like a puzzle and ephemeral/esoteric but I’m not focused on that with first listen.

I kind of like that she’s a puzzle. I think she’d like that she’s a puzzle. Sometimes art is better for subtleties and mysteries that are held back from us. I kinda miss the inaccessibility and mystery surrounding stars, the internet bursting the bubble and showing us everything and anything about them has kinda taken away something…

My wife is NOT a Radiohead fan, but I am and we have friends in a group chat that are, so we go back and forth on them. I had to screencap these two back to back reviews of the Bends and send it to them as it perfectly defines the range of feelings people have for Radiohead.
