What's Spinning

McCoy Tyner - Extensions

This was next in my play-through, but turns out I already played. Still, it's too good to ignore. There was chat somewhere about stacked jazz sessions and this has to be up there - McCoy, Alice Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, Gary Bartz, Ron Carter, and Elvin Jones, produced by Duke Pearson and recorded by Rudy Van Gelder. I think this is Tyner's masterpiece. So good.

#20 Margo Price "That's How Rumors Get Started"
I've enjoyed Margo Price songs over the years but never got into any of her previous albums. However, the set of songs on "That's How Rumors Get Started" keeps me coming back. Maybe it's Sturgill Simpson's production? The album does veer closer to classic rock than country. But there's still a little of that Lucinda Williams alt-country sound. And the album sounds fantastic, with that polished Fleetwood Mac-style lusciousness. The standouts for me are "Letting Me Down", "Twinkle Twinkle", "Stone Me", "Heartless Mind" and "What Happened To Our Love?".
