September 2021 Vinyl Spin Challenge Thread: This Thread. This Thread Is The Place. The Place Where Everything. Everything Always Happens.

Day 9 - “Psycho killer, qu’est-ce que c’est?”
Réalisant mon espoir, je me lance vers la gloire, OK.
Play an album with French lyrics or by an artist from Quebec or France. Imaginary bonus brown noser points for a French album by a French-Canadian artist.

Blossom Dearie - Self titled

Several songs here are sung in French.

Day 10 - “This Must Be The Place (Naïve Melody)”
Home is where I want to be. Pick me up and turn me round.
Play something that makes you feel good to be home, dancing alone with a floor lamp (i.e. play something that makes you want to dance even if you’re alone).

The Juan MacLean "In A Dream" (2014 DFA; 2020 reissue)
Infectious synthlines and Nancy Whang's sexy cold vocals usually do the trick. Already bobbing my head as I type this.... damn my foot started tapping too. I'm seconds away from grooving around the man cave and nobody will be the wiser...

A good friend introduced me to Sylvan Esso a few years ago, definitely a band that wouldn't have been on my radar stylistically. Glad she did, smart lyrics and great beats. We are going to see them tomorrow night for the 3rd time - so I get dancing in the home office today, and dancing at the show tomorrow. (Did I say I'm going to an actual concert again! With vax regulations and mandatory masks thankfully!)

Celia Cruz & Willie Colón - Celia y Willie

I love listening to salsa music while cooking/doing chores around the apartment. It always gives me the pep to groove and shimmy about while I take care of otherwise boring tasks.

The Beat - Special Beat Service

“Save It For Later” always has me skank dancing around the kitchen while I am preparing dinner.

Folk Implosion - Insinuation (Communion 1997)
I played the hell out of this 7in back in the day. Wonderful, slinky lo-fi indie pop from Lou Barlow and John Davis.

Day 11 - “Heaven. Heaven is a place. A place where nothing. Nothing ever happens.”
There is a party, everyone is there. Everyone will leave at exactly the same time.
Ok, you’ve had enough. Play an album that will get any lingering guests to finally leave.

This one was mentioned on the first page but I don't reckon most folks are weird enough to actually own it.

I'm weird enough...

Many consider this to be the first industrial noise album. It's kinda hard to argue that - it's definitely industrial in nature and noisy.

I've wanted to own it, but surprisingly the only copies I've seen in the bins were pretty well worn.

You may find people that like it, as I do, but I could see this being used to clear a party out.

Sonic Boom - Drone Dream ep (SFTRI 1993)

I love this 7in. I could drone on and on about it. It can be played at any speed, though I have not heard it at 16rpm. My wife describes this at music to scare off dogs, teens and anyone with their hearing fully intact.

Growing up in the Church, there were instances where this would get the party started…but I think it's more of a GTF out of my house play now...unless you want to get saved.

This was the best album of 2005 and it is still just as great as I remembered. The label had given me an advance copy and I played it non-stop all summer. I think I saw them live three times that year.
