Vinyl Me Please Rap & Hip Hop

I like the new album and love their earlier output, but I don’t agree that it is a step forward from the Minstrel show(which is not their last album). I will always prefer these guys over some 9th wonder production, personally.
I'm not sure exactly what was meant by step forward. I think it reflects where they are now in their life versus then then well.

I think the production on the album is great and fits right in with their sound that 9th helped cultivate. If it was a complete departure from that sound I would get the longing for 9th more.

Yah sorry, meant to say step forward from their last album AND The Minstrel Show (since no one really talks about Getback and Letback). And by step forward I meant everything from the production to the themes, and to the lyrics. I don't want to hear the same thing I heard 10 years ago and this exceeded my expectations while being very fresh. Please keep in mind that "step forward" does not mean "better" necessarily.

In listening to them talk about this album, they really tried to make it work with 9th Wonder, but it didn't pan out. I honestly think if they would have tried to force it with 9th, you would probably not enjoy the album as much because them not being on the same page would have affected the album.

Yeah, I also think it is funny that on a big 9th project that many people were happy he was working on, Rapsody's Eve, Khrysis had one of my favorite beats. Not that he did beats like that on MTLW, but funny that people write him off like every 9th beat is always better no matter what.

Guess Me, Please November 2019 #2

Essentials is known: About Our Upcoming Records of the Month
Classics is a jazz album
RHH was released in the first half of 2019

New hint for the RHH thread is pretty lame, just narrows it down to being released in the first half of 2019. Unfortunately that eliminates "May the Lord Watch" from the running. In looking at releases from the first half of 2019, there isn't really anything I would be excited for that hasn't already been released on vinyl, unless I am missing something.

If anyone following along in the Reddit guess thread, Storf said someone did get the RHH pick. Here's the sizable list of potential contenders, in no particular order:

Pivot Gang “You Can’t Sit With Us” was released in April, so that should still be on the list....plus they go on tour in November 🤔

I would be super surprised if they picked it, but happy because he deserves all the exposure and money he can get.

they picked Hiding Places as a top album in june , we can only hope lol

The new Billy Woods record is the VMP album of the week......I really like Hiding Places as a front runner.
Me too! I’d love the Rap & Hip-Hop ROTM to be Billy Woods & Kenny Segal’s “Hiding Places”! 🤞

I really hope it is not Pivot Gang as the Rap & Hip-Hop ROTM. If it is, it will be my first time I won’t be receiving the Rap & Hip-Hop ROTM 🤭

Also hoping we get Slowthai’s “Nothing Great About Britain”. I love that album! 🎯♥️

Is there a reason it can't be Anderson .Paak - Ventura?

I really hope it isn’t that album. I’ve got the Urban Outfitters exclusive and the pressing sounds great. And, it’s not even really a Rap/Hip-Hop album. Lizzo’s “Cuz I Love You” contains more rapping than Ventura.....

It’s a pretty great album though! It would just be such a disappointing pick!

Anderson .Paak is amazing, and like SO SEXXXY, I can't believe you would call it disappointing.
