  • Hah! Just like that, finally seeing movement on my package in France. It's... still in France but it's something at least. I just needed to say something about it on N&G to manifest any sort of progress.
How long should I wait before becoming worried about this package coming from France to the U.S. using La Poste? About a day after it was first shipped it gave this status update and hasn't seen any movement since.

Any place that specializes in selling covers only or albums missing covers? I got good copies of Charlie Parker Big Band and a mono version of Lou Donaldson's Alligator Bogaloo that are cover-less and that makes me sad :(

I know a lot of Blue Note collectors and whatnot also collect covers so I mean you may have luck on forums for that stuff. Of course the shocking thing in many cases is that the jacket is actually worth more than the disc in good condition...

I try to target copies with G media and VG or better sleeves. Sometimes you get lucky. I have a sleeveless mono Bobby Hutcherson Happenings right now that needs a home

There is a stereo pressing of Alligator Bogaloo cut b KPG avail on Amazon. It does say “Stereo” on the jacket but it’s also only $22 and you’d have a nice stereo pressing as well.
Does anyone want a VMP edition of Q-Tip - Kamaal/The Abstract? Or to be more precise, a fucked up copy I needed a replacement for but maybe you want? The label on Side A was mis-centered and now part of the label is in the deadwax. It'd be a shame to throw it out.
Oh my god, my Discogs wantlist notification messages are now completely useless. Just 80-90% scammers now what is going on with that site

Wouldn’t be shocked if it’s happening and maybe already cut tbh. Joe and KG have already cut the titles that will be released through late 2024.

I found a 1970s ressue of volume 2 recently and it’s phenomenal. I’ve been on a Sabu Martinez kick lately and just about anything that features him is a banger.

Haven't noticed any major escalation in clicks/pops with the new Shibata and the audio channel issue I had with the old ML's azimuth does indeed seem to be mostly fixed. A quick and dirty digital rip still shows one channel quieter than the other so there still might be some tweaking to be done.

My left/right audio channel test case has been Goat's Goatfuzz. With the old stylus, you miss an entire layer of guitar fuzz resulting in a very bizarre-sounding song. From my speakers at least, it now sounds immaculate.

I'm still not sure if it made much difference if I had bought a new ML instead of spending an extra 20 bucks by upgrading to the Shibata. I might put the ML back on just to rip Goatfuzz so y'all can see how messed up the old stylus was.

The Shibata profile is very sensitive to stylus rake angle, azimuth, etc. So I'd be surprised if there weren't some tweaking to be done.

I'm glad to hear it's such a big improvement already!

Got more tweaking to do. I had done a lot of adjustments on my old ML to minimize its azimuth flaws that I'm going to "undo" this weekend. All I've done so far is swap to the Shibata and adjust the weight but so far I'm liking what I'm hearing.

So glad your first impressions are positive! You never know when you talk about these things because sound is so subjective. But I absolutely love my AT-150Sa Shibata. The bass is indeed very sweet. But the highs remain detailed and the stereo separation is nice and wide like I like it. Looking forward to hearing more of your impressions.
I bought the AT Shibata stylus.

@NewsFedora... it's hard to tell how it will compare. The shibata has a different profile to the microline, but it's not that far off. I've read that the highs are softened and lows enhanced in comparison to an ML, but all I really know is that my Shibata is pretty revealing. Not sure how that difference in profile actually affects things. I know pops and clicks can sometimes be annoying to me.

@Mather it's sad how true that is. I played my VMP Jazz Samba at my girlfriend's dad's place on his system recently and I heard way more surface noise because of the Shibata!
I've given up trying to fix the azimuth on my VMN95ML and think I'll just chalk it up to time to get a new stylus. Do I try again with another ML or should I take the plunge on a Shibata with the VMN95SH?

I guess whatever I end up with will both amaze and annoy my OCD tendencies. The Nagaoka is kind of intriguing but when I bought my VMN95ML I did it because I planned to stick with AT cartridges so theoretically it'd be quick and easy to swap out styluses. Switching brands kind of defeats that purpose.

I'll sleep on it, but I'm leaning toward taking a chance with that Shibata...

I love it, it's risk vs reward, but man it sounds good when it sounds good.

It's the cool thing with these AT cartridges. When I can't find 150Sa styluses anymore, I can actually buy the VMN750SH stylus and it's fully compatible with the body of my cartridge.
Creating a brand new post in the General Music & Vinyl forum about Claudia Thompson and I think it's going to be novel-length by the time I'm finished with it. 😓
I bought a vinyl soundtrack to a 1950s western movie I have never seen just because of a song from Fallout: New Vegas lol
Any advice on getting a big fat THUMBPRINT out of a record? I did multiple cleanings with my Spin Clean but it's still there and is probably the cause of some record skips. Got the record used so that print could have been there for 40 years, for all I know...
Getting depressed seeing stuff in my Discogs wantlist go from $8 a year ago to $40+ today. Godley and Creme weren't THAT good, people.
