Vinyl Me Please Essentials

Since they installed the swap for credit option, there is no longer an incentive to sign up for a longer period. Unless you want all four tracks, you can simply swap your primary track every month to get the credit (for the actual amount you pay to sign up) and use the add-ons to buy what you want.

For example, last month I used my Classics to swap for the Meters and swapped my Essentials (my primary track) for credit ($50, which is a monthly payment for an international 3 month subscription).

I ended up buying the Karen Dalton exclusive with the credit, and I still have $16 left to spend.

Well, I wish that was true for me. My daughter bought me 3 months of VMP Essentials for Christmas, with Rejuvenation as the first record. I LOVE the Meters and this album. Side 1 is pristine and sounds as good as you describe, but side 2 has a loud staticky pop every revolution for 2/3 of the entire side. It sounds like a beat that’s out of time.

I’m new to this. Is there any chance VMP will replace it. I’ve seen a ton of complaints about their customer service, which is among the reasons why I’ve never signed up for VMP, but my very well-intentioned daughter would have no way of knowing that.

VMP will replace it. Send them a video with the pops. Their continued use of GZ is frustrating, but their replacement policy (at least with RotMs) is very good.

The reddit sub has become a series of wishlist posts- to me, it just shows how completely unexcited for a club's releases members are when they would rather talk about records they WISH they were getting
some suggestions are legit -- that lisa gerrard album is killer for example -- but mostly they fall into the category of "I am incapable of analytical thought" -- ie stuff that VMP could never hope to have the capacity to sell because the demand would make their shit melt down (e.g. tool, frank ocean, kendrick's section 80) or stuff that's firmly in the land of "they should press this because i want it" that has no mass appeal beyond like, nostalgic 90s kids.

VMP really needs to press a Frank Ocean and Tool collaborative album with a few guest verses from Kendrick and Jay-Z with a Ye remix of at least two songs. That would be tits!

Reddit is going to Reddit. The only thing interesting there are the guess threads and Pauly occasionally coming on to make excuses for the latest VMP fuck up.

I find the curation is still good across all 4 tracks, but the major issue is that the quality control has been on a steep downward trend over the past two years.

And they need to call it: The Predator. But just to fuck with people. Ice Cube will have nothing to do with it.

Or stuff that is already pressed and widely available. Someone was wishlisting Porno For Pyro’s Good God’s Urge; an album that was just repressed by ORG via Pallas and can be purchased directly for under $30.

I am still going to get the Grimes ROTM... But.. I'm scared about what the liner notes will be like seeing as modern day Grimes is writing them... It's not even just the Elon stuff but also her insistence on NFTs (though to be fair sadly a lot of great artists joined that train.. one of those will be the art print though), her weird opinions about communism on tiktok, and the fact she has always had this weird approach to social media that usually ends embarrassing.

I don't follow Grimes on social media, or her know what her political opinions are but if I felt I needed to agree with or like artist music that I listen to, I probably wouldn't listen listen to much music at all. I'd go for it if you like the music.

If she has written a weird communist polemic in the liner notes that you don't agree with at least it's a different opinion that will likely strengthen your own.

Not to go off course, too much (and not conflating socialism and communism, 'cause that too often happens)....

I remember reading the Economic Manuscripts...., the Grundrisse, and Das Kapital (especially after Hegel and seeing the more material application of the Dialectical Method) and nodding my head to a lot of the points. Then I read The Communist Manifesto and it lost me. I couldn't imagine anyone reading that and being like, "Yup, that's a solution". I tend to look at Michel Bakunin's thoughts on Communism as a pretty salient reproach: "Communism I abhor, because it is the negation of liberty, and without liberty I cannot imagine anything truly human. I abhor it because it concentrates all the strength of society in the State, and squanders that strength in its service ; because it places all property in the hands of the State, whereas my principle is the abolition of the State itself".

Of course, no reason to throw the baby out with the bathwater and I still appreciate those points I found pertinent. Then again, my opinions are worthwhile in theory. In theory.

Anyone actually got Sigur Ros in their hands yet? Cogs reviews seem to think it's audibly rather flat, but I'm sure it was likely recorded digitally so I'm not super shocked if that turns out to be the case.

I've seen the same complaints on reddit. I wanted it to be good for you guys (that actually did get it), but man when they announced it my first thought was "why?".
