Y'all... I think last night was the best night of my life. Drove 3 hours into the desert to see a private outdoor Big Thief show under the full moon. Bonfires, string lights, warm beer, and beautiful musicians. The night ended sitting around a bonfire with Adrianne Lenker, Buck Meek and the rest of the band. I feel I peaked and its all down hill from here.
Noticed something very interesting. On high volumes I can hear the music before it starts “playing” as the needle gets closer to it. So in quiet passages I’ll hear in instances an incredibly quiet string of keys on a bill evans song half a second before it actually starts “playing” that exact string. It’s hard to explain, but is this normal? It’s like a reverse echo!
I started a concert fund 2 years ago and money automatically gets saved there with an app I use and over COVID it got rather healthy, so I am absolutely splurging on concerts coming up. From September - November I will be seeing Isaiah Rashad, Durand Jones, Yo-Yo Ma, James Blake, Herbie Hancock, Men I Trust, Ty Segal, Outside Lands Fest, Desert Daze fest, and potentially Wolf Alice + Dry Cleaning Gotta love saving
My weekend USPS guy is the worst. 9/10 if I have something out for delivery on a Saturday it will never get delivered, then update Sunday to “Awaiting Delivery Scan” only to sometimes go out for Delivery again on Monday. Today though, it went from “Out for Delivery” to “Arrived at Post Office”. What is going on lol
After over a year of tinkering with my Fluance RT85 trying to find the sound I’ve been looking for and variable test issues I’ve had with it I’ve decided its time to sell it off, put that money towards a Bluesound Node while I divert my monthly vinyl spend towards getting an endgame deck (Technics, Rega or Ultradeck). Not looking forward to 6-12 months of no vinyl but it’s time
Brought my Fluance to my local hi-fi shop to tackle the sibilance + distortion issues I've been facing the past year+ and he did some small tweaks to my alignment and it worked a miracle. Previously, my Miles Davis - Ascenseur (Sams Record) pressing was unplayable due to a cyclical static noise that persisted through the entire listen. Used it as my test record when I got home and voila!!! ITS GONE, OH HAPPY DAY!
Got to see Carlos Nino and Jeff Parker last night, surprise guest ended up being Esperanza Spalding who came up and played upright bass with Jeff Parker and sang some improvisational tunes! Beyond epic first concert post-covid
Summer of Soul!!! What a film man, that gospel section with Mavis and Mahalia had me balling like a baby, so much beauty, pain, and power contained within. One of the most moving things I’ve seen in a long time
Just released my first podcast episode since before COVID. Join me as I talk to Adriana McCassim, an LA based indie-rock singer/songwriter that has been compared to a young Sharon Van Etten, by SVE herself. Had an absolute blast, she was a great guest and her music is even better! Check it out
