WWII


Roger Waters had quite a few references to WWII, his dad dying in the Battle of Anzio. "When the Tigers Broke Free" is about this exact subject.

It wasn't on the original The Final Cut release, but has been added on more recent reissues. It was originally written for The Wall, but was cut. It does appear in the movie.

"Nuclear War" seems a pretty obvious song to tie to WWII as it's the one war that has gone nuclear (so far) but D-Day came before the bombs and I imagine the anticipation of the invasion in the immediate lead-up for the soldiers who took part must indeed have felt something like a fireside chat with Lucifer.
