Hot Take/ Musical Confession Thread!

Here's another 1/2 baked idea/Hot take: The modern Alt/Indie Female Singer/Songwriter sound is the Hair Metal of today.
The question is who is going to end up being the Warrant in this scenario?

Guns & Roses

Bon Jovi

Cinderella

Whitesnake

Ratt

Scorpions

Dokken

Twisted Sister

Quiet Riot

Faster Pussycat

LA Guns

Skid Row

Kix

W.A.S.P.

Y&T

Europe

Winger

White Lion
Who is Stryper?

It's not music but it's tangential in so much that it's on MTV, but....I've been doing a set up on one of my guitars and had the TV idling in the background. I guess I was aware that I was listening to the insipid chatter of knobs, but I also wasn't very discerning....

Anyway, my confession is that I've spent the last hour with Jersey Shore Family Vacation on.

These are the type of confessions we're doing here, right? Cause I'm just gonna need someone to tell me how many hail Marys I need to do or whatever people do when they need to wash the sweet, icky sin off.

Who is Stryper?
Probably should have been Haley Williams, but I like her new solo stuff enough not to stick her with that obvious comparison. I went with Whitesnake b/c of Coverdale’s early band (Deep Purple) and subsequent solo career and reinvention with Whitesnake (Kind of like Paramore on After Laughter).

Stryper was my 1st concert though.

Idk how hot of a take this is but I couldnt help thinking about it last night

Cage the Elephant > The Killers in every conceivable way and should really take over their headlining spots at festivals
Probably because I am likely at least 10 years old than you I would tend to disagree. Cage The Elephant have never done anything for me and while I can’t say that Brandon Flowers and Co. are still releasing headlining worthy (though better than I had expected) albums, I still much prefer anything off of Hot Fuss or Sam’s Town to every CTE song l’ve ever heard. For the record, I don’t necessarily even dislike Cage The Elephant, They just fail to elicit much emotion from me either way.

I've seen Cage live a couple of times and they were great. They really put on a good show. 👍 That being said, they are not bigger or better than the Killers hence why they do not have the headlining gig at festivals.

I think Brandon Flowers 💐 and Co. are still very much headlining material even if their latter releases are not on par with their debut and sophomore albums necessarily. They have the stage presence, and enough hit singles to get an entire arena or stadium going. Plus Brandon knows how to command a crowd. They are still a big draw in a lot of countries and very much relevant today.

I don’t doubt any of these points. Weezer and Foo Fighters still packs them in too. I guess it depends on the festival. My point was more that The Killers are more relevant to people my age than they would be for people 5 to 10 years younger than I. That is fine. I would rather see The Killers play a greatest hits State Fair type set than a set of mostly new music.

@TenderLovingKiller® @Hollywood Its probably my biases dominy into play here but atleast last night it seemed like Cage had total control over the crowd and whether they were playing their hits or album cuts the crowd was totally in it. On the other had when the killers were playing anything other than "brightside" "all these things" and "somebody told me" then the crowd seemed bored. For the majority of the set my section of the crowd seemed to just be chit chatting or playing on their phones (me included)

As we are roughly the same age I would have to agree with that.

Cage the Elephant deserve to be more loved than they are. I would easily count them as being among the most consistently good rock bands of their time and it confuses me why people just sort of gloss over them. I guess for a lot of people they peaked early with their first album and that huge "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked" single but they should be known for more than that.

I’ve tried. They get grouped together with a lot of bands a really enjoy but it just never stirs me the ways others do.

Yeah I think everyone has bands/artists like that, where superficially they should enjoy them but they just don't. I get it. At least with CTE I have hope their best output is still ahead of them and maybe one day they'll win more people over, but I'm not sure how likely that is. But even if they stay in the lane they're currently in, I don't think that's a bad thing. They do what they do well and sometimes that's all a band needs to do.
