The Blue Note Thread

I think you're onto something. I think back to all the small distros and one-man labels I ordered from in the '90s and early '00s who would overstuff the box with scrap cardboard sandwiched around records. Wasn't always pretty, but the records always seemed to be fine. Plaid Room, Acoustic Sounds, and Music Direct all use bubble wrap, and because they all clearly put care and time into packing their records, I assume they must know what they're doing. But I've received seam splits from all three, and I've found myself wondering if those packages overstuffed with cardboard that felt like bricks are maybe the way to go.
If the theory holds, overstuffing with bubble wrap should work as well. Wouldn't take much more than is typically used.

He does confirm/re-confirm that the next wave will include:

Jackie McLean - Tippin The Scales
This is an intriguing choice that’s perfect for Tone Poet, but I was hoping for McClean’s “One Step Beyond.”

I suspect I’m in a minority, but I really love the albums w/ McLean, Grachan Moncur, and Bobby Hutchinson, particularly Moncur’s compositions. Indeed, my Music Matters copy of Moncur’s ”Evolution” is in the top group of my favorite BN albums.

Evolution is indeed great .

Is that a limitation that they’ve expressed for some reason like the philosophy behind the TP series? Licensing? Harley’s involvement w/ MM?
In the recently posted video, Harley says he isn't doing any of the same titles for TP that he did for MM because, well, he's "already done them." But he did mention several Classic titles that had been done by MM (like Somethin' Else) and seemed to indicate there were no such limitations.

Just been listening to a Joe Harley interview and he mentions that they (him and Kevin Gray) have just finished working on Harold Vick's 'Steppin Out'. Hopefully he meant for the Tone Poet series which would be great.

The great Big John Patton on Hammond Organ. Patton solo albums and Don Wilkerson would also be great!

I'm glad that's getting a wider release. I picked it up last year when Turntable Lab had it as a blue exclusive. It's fun. Not quite Stepping Into Tomorrow but very enjoyable.

Nice!, a little bit of everything for everyone there. Wilson is a nice Hammond session. Great to see Nichol's get some due. The Cherry is great. Big Beat has never been my favorite Blakey, was really hoping for Someone To Love. Anyone heard that Morgan session ?
