I should add that there are some members that I truly enjoy interacting with but the only place they visit is the VMP threads. So it forces me to choose between interacting with friends in those threads I don't like (and you all probably don't care for me to enter because my opinions are well known at this point) or never interacting with those friends. :( It's not a fun choice to make.

It really does feel at times like a starkly divided community at times, those who moved on, and those who didn’t. I still hold, as I have from the start, that we give them too much free real estate and that, like any other club, they should only have one thread. They’ve chosen reddit as their avenue of communication and the old forum is dead.

Are they really your friends if they don't look to communicate in places other than threads you have stated you don't wanna go?

I don't think that VMP should have any more space or free promotion than any other company. I get the arguments that there are multiple tracks / products, but to me that isn't reason to provide the company greater privilege here. I also don't understand why the discussions about VMP can't happen in one thread.

It would be great if there was more visibility for other companies and their products. Some of those folks actually interact with forum members in a respectful way, offer the occasional deal. To me the current set-up is inequitable in VMP's favor imo.

I don't think this place should be the defacto VMP publicity machine, but that has probably faded to some extent over the past 11 months.

And yet the page views and number of posts on the individual VMP threads all outnumber most if not all of the other threads in this portion of the site. So people seem to still wish to discuss VMP and their offerings. One large thread will make any actual discussion near impossible to keep up with.

I frankly don’t see the point of rehashing this argument again. If you don’t like the VMP threads, stay out of them. And it’s not like people are going out of their way to bust into the N&G threads to plug VMP. I don’t think there is any “promotion” of those VMP threads either. I say leave them be, stick to what you enjoy, and quit raining on other people’s parade.

It's a legit point of view. Sorry (not sorry) you feel like it's "raining on your parade." The "promotion" language is about how much space they take up on the this forum (not their own by the way). They're given more real estate. Why? I see no point for why that particular company or any other should be provided more space here.

If they started paying N&G for the space it might make sense... but they don't.

I much prefer the separate threads. Makes it easy to just read the last two pages or so once a month to see what's going on with the new releases, etc. Often, I am not interested in the RHH track, but that thread seems to get a lot of traffic; if the threads were all consolidated, I'd have to wade through a bunch of Rick Ross convo this month to get the info I actually want. In fact, if the threads were all combined, I might eventually stop visiting the thread at all. It would just be too inefficient.

OK. I merely wanted to open it up to discussion and for it to be civil. It has now been implied that I don't have friends. And that I'm raining on people's parades.

Cheers.
I’m not saying that you are being unfair and I’m not saying that anybody else’s feelings are invalid on this. There are two sides to this coin and maybe it’s best if we just let it be.

I strongly oppose the idea that people need to ‘move on’ from vmp, if they like the company and the records, or just want to keep a hand in in case they finally release ‘when the pawn...’ it is completely up to them. Christ, it’s a forum, what does it matter to people not using the individual threads that they even exist?

What about any of the other companies that pop in here to “promote”? Should they pay to play?

People are free to buy from whatever record store they see fit. I was referring to moving on from the old forum and it’s VMP centric worldview.

Sorry Teeee. I'm with you.

They don't have 4 or 5 threads do they?

They're given more real estate because people like to discuss the tracks and genres of those tracks. The Essentials just had a great discussion of glam rock and protopunk. Rap & Hip Hop is always good for discussing the time frame and other artists that were missed guesses on the title for the month. Classics is always a pretty good dive into the artists and why they are or are not a good choice. I started the Anthology one to not pollute the other threads and to have a better area to talk/speculate on those box sets. If this is a user driven forum, why can't the users choose the threads they discuss things on? Mods didn't start the threads. Users did.

Why do all of those things (other than anthology) have to be done through the lens of VMP? Why not have a glam and prot punk thread. There is a hip-hop thread, etc.

I can think of at least three threads that have representatives from the companies who are active in promoting new products. I agree it would be ridiculous if each of those companies had five different threads for different products, but as @mdmost the different threads are for clarity not just more shameless plugging of VMP.
