  • Well that was pretty awesome. The clouds cleared away just in time for us to see the total eclipse. Seeing the stars during the daytime is quite the freaky experience. I am being informed that the stars were actually Jupiter and Venus.

A pro-tip during Girl Scouts cookie season. Thin Mints put in your freezer and had with afternoon coffee is the perfect antidote for dreary, cold, rainy days.
Always makes me feel like a kid to wake up and see snow on the ground. We got a nice dusting here in Texas which is rare. Now let's just hope the power holds up. Already had to unfreeze a pipe in our outside utility room.
Watched A Christmas Story again with our kids. Love this movie a lot and used to completely see myself through the Ralphie character. Now I empathise more with The Old Man. The joy in his eyes when he relives being a kid again through the gift to his son makes the movie for me now. And who doesn't hate your furnace when you're a homeowner? NOT A FINGA!
Why do some Christmas songs sound like threats? YOU'LL GET YOURS! BETTER WATCH OUT! HANG YOUR STOCKINGS AND SAY YOUR PRAYERS!

@mdmost i need to know what song started this.

As to Baby it’s cold just don’t listen to the cee-lo version which is extra rapey.

I was listening to The Man With the Bag and the line "you'll get yours" always stuck out as a funny dumb double meaning in my weird head. Like you'll get yours...which could be a terrible fate. I was never a fan of using Santa as a children discipline device like in Santa Clause is Coming to Town.

Grandma got run over by a reindeer has some truly gruesome lyrics...

Like finding your grandma dead in the snow Christmas morning and the implication that she was killed by Santa and his sleigh.
I thought getting my oldest Taylor Swift tickets was hard. Those have nothing on trying to get Laufey tickets for the younger one. 2 dates in a 2,000 seat performance venue and the queue was over 6,000 ahead of me for both dates. And that was with 3 devices all trying at the same time.
Always happy with a chance encounter with music. I was coming home from dropping the kid off from school this morning. I normally listen to my sports radio station every morning. Instead I flipped on KXT, my local NPR music station, and they were playing an artist I have never heard of before, Laufey. It was right up my alley. Now, I've spent the morning listening to all her stuff. Really enjoyable vocal jazz.
Going back to Austin this Friday for the National show. I haven't been to Austin since 2017. I went to college there from 1994-1998. I'm such a nerd that I made myself a playlist on Spotify of music I'm going to listen to from that era as I drive down and around town. Also listening to STP's Purple the whole way through...

as that is the album I most associate with my time in Austin. I had moved down the summer before my freshman year. I didn't know anyone but I had a car. I went to Tower Records and bought Purple when it came out and just drove around all day listening to it and learning about my new home.

Austin has changed a lot since you were last here. Admittedly, most of the changes have not been for the better, but I think the same can be said of most cities. Overall, I still enjoy living here. I was at UT from 1992-1996, so we overlapped a bit.

@Aron yeah, I'm actually thinking about what I might do while I'm there and I bet most of the places I used to go to are all gone now. Mostly, it will be going to breweries and food places that I know still exist.

Heaven help me, I now have a 16 year old child. It was just yesterday we were trying to bring her out into this world. I may now officially be old AF. Well....50 is fast approaching.
Every step in this bathroom remodel feels like a practical joke that's being played on us by the contractor. Latest, we built you a vanity for your sink that's actually not big enough for your sink to go in. Can you quickly find a new sink that exactly fits in this vanity we built for you? Oh guess what, nothing fits that size!
Spending 4 days in the Bay Area where the weather was 75 degrees at the most and then returning to 100 degrees here in Dallas is not enjoyable in the least.
So older kid wanted a record player so she could listen to vinyl. Youngest wanted a CD boombox so she could listen to CDs. I guess if we had a 3rd kid then he or she would want a cassette player? 4th would want an 8 track player or mini disc?
Jazzy July begins today. My quest is to play nothing but jazz music for the entire month of July.
Casimir Pulaski Day is Sufjan Stevens best song. Change my mind.

Been revisiting his older stuff recently and almost forgot how great it all really is.

It really is. I would also give a shout to “Chicago” (it’s popular but it is really good), “Pittsfield” (my underrated pick), “The Only Thing” and of course “Impossible Soul”
