Day 2 - “Road To Nowhere”

Well, we know where we're goin' but we don't know where we've been.
Play an album that references driving, the road and/or traveling.

This album is probably responsible for more speeding tickets than any other...

I strip away the old debris
That hides a shining car
A brilliant Red Barchetta
From a better vanished time
We fire up the willing engine
Responding with a roar
Tires spitting gravel
I commit my weekly crime

John Prine - Pink Cadillac

The albums is called Pink Cadillac and there is this fantastic performance of Prine playing the song “Automobile” on a local Chicago PBS station from 1980, the video kicks off with Prine taking us for a tour through his hometown of Maywood, IL via his own classic auto.

Will I get booted/bood/eye-rolled/flipped off/madefunof/thoughtlessof if I post cassettes on the challenge?
I have done this before and there was no eye-rolling, at least displayed electronically. It may say “vinyl spin” in the title but I move to open it up to all physical music formats! 😁
@TenderLovingKiller® is also a fellow tapehead and he may agree

Das Damen - Sad Mile b/w Making Time
The 9th Sub Pop Singles Club release. A great 45 with a Creation cover on the B-side. This is one of the things I love about 45s is the tossed off B-side. A pretty standard Michael Levine picture on the cover. Him and Charles Peterson really shaped how many of us saw “indie rock” in the late 80s and early 90s.

Baby, you can drive my car
Yes, I'm gonna be a star
Baby, you can drive my car
And maybe I'll love you...

I forgot it wasn't on the US release of Rubber Soul! So had to pull out Yesterday and Today instead to play it.

Day 2 - “Road To Nowhere”

We drove right past the exit, and nobody even said a thing. The light in your eyes, they started dancing for my brain. I know you're all about the world and when it's ending. I know, because you whispered it right to me.

I haven't listened to this album in quite a while, but it was the very first one I thought of regarding today's theme. The very first track, "The Exit", sets the rest of the record up so nicely. There are a few other references to travel / driving on here, but that very first line from the opening track resonated the most with me. Despite this being one of my least favorite album covers ever, this record is great and I'm excited to spin it. I'm sure this will not be the last time Lydia makes an appearance from me this month.

You will be held in high esteem. I’ll usually post a Tape or two per challenge if the category fits.

seeing some of the 🔥 cassette Tapes post on the “what’s spinning” thread I’d hope you post some of your collection.

Yeah, we aren’t too judgy. There’ve been times folks have posted a photo of an album streaming and even that works. It’s more about the music than the media.

Though we are still waiting for our first 8-Track or reel-2-reel post (or at least I am).

Clipse - Hell Hath No Fury

All I want to do is ride around shining while I can afford it
Plenty ice on my neck so I don't get nauseous
Float around in the greatest of Porsche's
Feel like a chuck wagon 'cause I'm on twelve horses

Day 2: “Road To Nowhere”

I was starting to panic because I couldn’t find anything in me stack that related to today’s theme. Fortunately a fresh delivery arrived just a few hours ago that saved the day! I’m not ashamed to admit that I was not a fan of this album when it was released and didn’t really come appreciate it until a few years ago.

R.E.M.-AUTOMATIC For The People

DRIVE

Smack, crack, bushwhacked
Tie another one to the racks, baby
Hey kids, rock and roll
Nobody tells you where to go, baby
What if I ride, what if you walk?
What if you rock around the clock?
Tick-tock, tick-tock
What if you did, what if you walk?
What if you tried to get off, baby?
Oh-oh
Hey, kids, where are you?
Nobody tells you what to do, baby
Oh-oh
Hey kids, shake a leg
Maybe you're crazy in the head, baby
Oh-oh
Maybe you did, maybe you walked
Maybe you rocked around the clock
Tick-tock, tick-tock
Maybe I ride, maybe you walk
Maybe I drive to get off, baby
Oh-oh
Hey kids, shake a leg
Maybe you're crazy in the head, baby
Ollie, Ollie, Ollie, Ollie, Ollie
Ollie, Ollie in come free, baby
Hey, kids, where are you?
Nobody tells you what to do, baby
Smack, crack, shack-a-lack
Tie another one to your backs, baby
Oh-oh
Hey kids, rock and roll
Nobody tells you where to go, baby
Maybe you did, maybe you walk
Maybe you rock around the clock
Tick-tock, tick-tock
Maybe I ride, maybe you walk
Maybe I drive to get off, baby
Hey kids, where are you?
Nobody tells you what to do, baby
Hey kids, rock and roll
Nobody tells you where to go, baby
Go, baby
Baby
