Pre-Order Thread

The 30th Anniversary of They Might Be Giants - Flood will see them be reissued on “Asbestos” (marbled green) vinyl here

The 25th Anniversary from Asbestos was on translucent green, so good on them for changing it up ;)

I'm really excited that Apollo 18 is listed as 'coming soon' as I missed the 2014 repress.

I have the 2014 press, but hope they do Apollo 18 and John Henry on remastered colored vinyl sometime soon. I just listened to my recent red remastered "Lincoln" yesterday and it sounds appreciably better than my first pressing black copy.

I ordered this, too - no updates from them at all.

I contacted customer service to request a status and received nothing -sooooooo, probably going to dispute when I get around to it :(

ps-really liked this so disappointed and was willing to hold out a bit but since no response it does not look good

Do you know the name of the order confirmation email?

Hmm... seems like January 2020 won't be my music month for this year which is a bit the opposite to 2019 where I was looking forward to several records (Deerhunter, Sharon Van Etten, Better Oblivion Community Center, Little Simz). I'll be checking out some records (Destroyer, Torres, Poliça, Wolf Parade, Okay Kaya) but I hope it's going to be better in February/March.

Whenever there's no big release I'm anticipating, I usually find a few hidden gems from either past of present, hope that's gonna be the case for this month too.

Monophonics
It's Only Us
Random colored vinyl limited to 2500 copies
Release date: 3/13/20
PRE-ORDER
With a timeless sound that blends heavy soul and psych-rock, Monophonics have built a reputation over the past decade as one of the best live bands in the country. Led by singer Kelly Finnigan, the band of has drawn on their colorful history — both their experiences as veteran touring performers and as individuals growing up in the Bay Area — to create “It’s Only Us,” their fourth release since 2012.

A reflection of what they see as the current state of the world, the record touches on difficult subjects such as broken relationships, mental health issues, gun violence and power struggles, all with an underlying message of unity, resilience and acceptance. The band’s signature style of arrangement has been expanded with top-notch production and creative instrumentation to round out the Monophonics’ trademark soul sound, while Finnigan’s vocals are more powerful than ever. At times these tracks can feel classic, as familiar as an old song you grew up with, while simultaneously raising questions about the state of music in 2020 and what the future might hold.

“It’s Only Us” is the sound of a group continuing to grow as songwriters, musicians, performers and people — reflecting on where they’ve been, and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the years to come.

Production note: there are four different die-cut album covers for the entire first pressing of 6000, which will be randomly assigned.

Black Market Brass
Undying Thirst
Gold vinyl limited to 1500 copies
Release date: 2/28/20
PRE-ORDER
Hailing from Minneapolis, MN, Black Market Brass is a 10-piece group performing their own brand of originally composed Afrobeat/Afrofunk music, as well as completing authentic renditions of the classic 1970's West African sound. Taking their cues from the godfathers, the band draws on complex polyrhythmic percussion, driving bass lines, dizzying guitar interplay, rolling keyboards, and room-commanding brass. The result? An eclectic blend of cool deep funk and driving Afrobeat grooves that will lure you to the dance floor and never let you leave.

Their sophomore effort "Undying Thirst" picks up right where they left off. Continuing to push their writing and arranging efforts, the songs are getting more complex and darker as the group evolves. We are proud to present this fantastic LP of instrumental madness!

Rough Trade is also getting a limited to 500 coke bottle pressing of the Monophonics.

New Colemine 🔥

Great, you will get it delivered by next December with a warp and smashed corners.

Or you might end up with 11 extra copies...yeah, no interest in supporting VMP here, but having it as an Essentials pick may preclude other variants being made available. I may try to find this one on discogs in late March or April.
