Let's See Your Collection! Any Size!

Understanding partners is a must in this collection building!

I now set my wife challenges at record fairs to combat her boredom ! Normally 80’s gap fillers ...bank hols Monday there is record fair in Stratford-upon-Avon where we just happen to be staying over the weekend! What a coincidence....so she’s tasked with finding a copy of Joan Jett’s “I love rock n roll” album on vinyl ....

My wife would kill me for recommending that she attend a record fair with me. Lord only knows what she would do if I gave her a "challenge."

Just tolerating all the time, space, & $$$s between listening, storing, & stereo equipment/vinyl is asking a lot of a significant other. Still, it beats hitting the bars every night after work or blowing everything at the casino. I usually can’t wait to get home. My wife still gets time for her personal interests. And, we have other time set aside for things we do together. All good.

Update: New additional racks are built and reinforced. Heading to their new home in freshly painted media room….

For those doubters ...my wife’s record fair experience was improved drastically by the “challenge”....instead of being bored after 5 minutes she was off like a gazel...90 minutes later (which gave me uninterrupted digging time) she ran over going ..”found it !” ....well pleased with herself ..more annoying it was in a section I’d flipped thru and missed so her victory was even sweeter ...

I never doubted you. Just know that my wife would probably start throwing records at me.

The main music room shelves and the back half of the new media room is a major mess. Virtually every lp and cd will have been moved b4 the project is done. Lots more to do but the Metal and Box Set sections have a new permanent home.

2023 Music Room(s) upgrade is coming to a close. Sorry for long post. After over 100 hrs of labor cleaning, moving, organizing, etc over 4 weeks it’s time for a victory lap. Above is looking into main music room. Everything is organized alphabetically by last name. Different music sections are separated and marked by dividers. Generally, by music genre but also some specific breakouts like major artists, special labels, audiophile, etc.

Here are a few detail shots of main room….

The big part of the project was cleaning up and expanding media storage into a 2nd attached room…..

Looking into new room. Added an additional 17 2x2 Ikea units of storage space. And a few detail shots of new room in it’s final form below ….

Finally, there is a wall-to-wall closet on the far end not pictured also newly fully organized. It has extra swag, saved boxes, a bunch of used vinyl to sort thru, and a dedicated small cabinet of vinyl that does not yet have a Discogs listing. This way nothing gets into the main rooms that isn’t both in Cogs database and play tested in NM- or close condition.

Fuuuck, man, that's incredible. Really convenient that your vinyl is so accessible to your playing area, and that you have the space to organize as you've described, especially for the stuff that's still in limbo. Where in your house is this? I don't see any windows so I'm thinking maybe basement, but realize it could be interior rooms as well. Really cool.

My wife and I recently bought a new home, and I'm slowly getting things set up. There is still a lot to do. Will be building 2 more wall crates in the coming weeks. Also will be adding a chair to the left next to the lamp, which will become my headphone listening station. (Any recommendations for a cozy, reclining chair perfect for that?)
Hoping to build my turntable console into the next year, which will replace the old turntable cabinet that I'm using now.

Also need a lot more art on the walls! This room is sooo much bigger than the room I was previously set up in, and it will take a bit to get to the level of coziness that was. Definitely needing some sound panels to make the room not so echoey. (Again, if you have any recommendations here, I would love to hear them)

Oh, and meet Luke Skybarker! He joined the family about 5 months ago and he is the goodest boy...
