Did you get the webstore exclusive of Katie Pruitt? Kind of wishing I would have bit on that. It was 31.00 shipped but I know it is only going to go up in value. Saw her in store and got my copy signed so I guess all is not lost.
No. I didn't know to look for it. Seems sold out everywhere. May have to order from her store.

Enjoyed both of these. Thinking they'll continue to grow throughout the year. Also found my favorite death metal album so far this year and a solid black metal release I shared over in the Metal thread as well. Thanks for sharing all this great music everyone!

Haven't listened to a ton of new stuff this year but really digging these:

R.A.P. Ferreira: Purple Moonlight Pages
A.A.L.: 2017-209
Royce da 5'9": The Allegory

36 & Zake: Stasis for long distance space travel
Mick Jenkins: The Circus
Warmth: Life
Beatrice Dillon: Workaround

looking forward to hearing the new Hilary Woods album which is out on Friday. I have both it and Monophonics ordered from rough trade so should get them mid way through next week. The new Noel EP arrived this morning too.

Going forward my other pre orders are for Thundercat and Haim for April and Moses Sumney for May.

U.S Girls is the first new album ive listened to so far. Will def be in top 5 I think but i doubt itll stay my number 1.

as for singles

XS - Rina Sawayama
Spotlight - Jessie Ware

one of these two songs are almost certainly gonna be my fav song of the year (Overtime by U.S. Girls has a solid third place spot as of now)

XS is such a jammmm. The other two singles have been phenomenal as well... it gives me high Hope's for the rest of the album

New US Girls didn’t catch me... which is kind of shocking considering how much I love her previous work (and how good the opening track was). Maybe I need to give it a listen when not in my car.

But also— add Allie X: Cape God to my list of favs. It’s a gem of a pop album that came my way via Line of Best Fit giving it a glowing review.

@Teeeee I think this may be up your alley

I have never heard this, I will definitely check it out. Thank you for thinking of me!!!

I don’t yet have a ranking, but I’ve quite enjoyed:

Moses Sumney - Grae Pt 1
Beach Bunny - Honeymoon
Caroline Rose - Superstar
Tennis - Swimmer
Moses Boyd - Dark Matter
Phoebe Bridgers - Garden Song (shut up, it counts)
Becky and the Birds - Do U Miss Me (ditto)

Liked but didn’t quite love:

Grimes - Miss Anthropocene
Tame Impala - The Slow Rush
Soccer Mommy - Color Theory
King Krule - Man Alive
Wolf Parade - Thin Mind

A bunch of other stuff I expected to like has just been Fine.

Porridge Radio-- Favorite rock album of the year thus far (thanks Pitchfork). Shades of Ought, Joy Division and Priests.

Plus an oldie because it's a fire live version:

Also--
katie pruitt is really good but ain't country i don't reckon; more in common with julien baker or phoebe bridgers

Listening now. You are definitely right, but the TWANG on this one still runs deep, and her singing style is very country in places. Which would have been cutting it way too close for the vast majority of my life (even though I dig folk). For example- I've never been able to get into the Grateful Dead, Wilco or Jenny Lewis for the same reason.

But maybe Golden Hour broke me. Or maybe it's that Julien Baker's first album was a staple of last decade for me. Not sure, but I dig it.

I haven't gotten through yesterday's releases (like Porridge Radio, above, but loved the singles, or Yumi Zouma and Four Tet) but here are my thoughts on 2020 bests in both tracks and albums so far.

Tracks I can't stop listening to:

"Made" by Jamie Isaac and Nosaj Thing
"Fire" by Waxahatchee
"Legs, Run" by Lala Lala
"Lilac" by Porridge Radio
"Blue Comanche" by Westerman
"Death Engine" by I Break Horses
"Want it Kept" by Many Voices Speak
"Kerosene!" by Yves Tumor
"quiet motions" by mxmtoon
"Killing What Keeps Us Alive" by Margaret Glaspy

Albums I keep going back to:

Caribou - Suddenly
Tennis -Swimmer
Katie Gately - Loom
Makaya Mccraven - We're New Again, A Reimagining
Tame Impala - The Slow Rush

I think U.S. Girls will be added to this album list, but I need more time. I'm anticipating the albums by Porridge Radio, Four Tet and Yumi Zouma all being contenders, but I need to listen to them!
