  • Finally diverted my vinyl budget and bought two podcast mics! Time to put my hopes and dreams in motion! Will definitely be sharing the episodes here, I’m looking to interview musicians about their come up and the struggles that came with getting to where they are today. Hoping it will be a bit more mental health oriented than most interview shows. Can’t wait to see how it evolves!
Really enjoying this Alexandra Savior album! Gonna have to scoop this up on vinyl next paycheck. May be worth seeing her live next month

Shes good live. I saw her open for The Last Shadow Puppets a couple years back, before her debut was released
Would love to know how people’s collections are balanced out. How much of your collection is Contemporary (let’s say post-1980) and how much of it is Classics (pre-1980). Think mine is probably 60% classics 40% contemporary rn
Just bought Nat King Coles - Love Is The Thing (AP 45RPM Press). Heard incredible things about how this thing sounds, excited to have it as my first official NKC album!

Is anyone else’s MoFi Surrealistic Pillow kind of fuzzy on its vocal highs? Like on 3/5 of a Mile in 10 seconds when they sing “KNOW I LOVE YOU BABY, YES I DO” it gets kind of shrill. Would that be an issue with my Fluance not being able to track that well or more a issue with the pressing? Also are MoFis and AP pressings typically kind of hissy in the quiet spots?
On another note: I’m caught between a couple different records as my next pick up and need help picking

John Coltrane & Milt Jackson - Bags & Trane (45RPM ORG Press)
Dave Brubeck - Jazz Goes To College (Analogue Spark Press)
Miles Davis - Some Day My Prince Will Come (Analogue Productions Press)
Art Blakey - Art Blakey!!! Jazz Messengers!!! (45RPM Analogue Productions Press)

    Anybody own any of these?
Just popped my RT85’s Blue Note cherry with a 1977 King pressing of Art Blakey’s Moanin. IT SOUNDS GLORIOUS, my poor LP60 could never.

@duke86fan i can’t even geek out on the possibilities of amps until I upgrade my speakers. Currently using Klipsch R-51PMs (powered) so cant even toss an amp into the chain. Next up I’m getting a proper pre-amp, then a cart, then speakers! The upgrade path looks bright. You should pop into the Hardware Recommendation thread, I’m sure @HiFi Guy can point you in the right direction!
What was the consensus on the VMP pressing of Jeff Buckley’s Grace

It's not the Kevin Gray remaster. Which they told me it was. It's not great.

Follow up: By all accounts the best available is the 2 LP 45 ORG but it costs a fortune, the second best is the 2010 pressing that KG mastered and that can be had for about 20 bucks. If I were you I'd grab that one, just make sure it's the 2010. It's the only one he did.

Just watched Little Women with my lady and gotta say. I absolutely loved it, beautiful acting across the board, beautiful cinematography, storytelling and did I mention the score was B-E-A-UTIFUL?
Just bought the MOFI Jefferson Airplane - Surreal Pillow! Any one here in love with it?

Also, I feel like the person who decides what albums MOFI should do is about 70 years old. They choose some strange stuff.

My fiancé decided to just give me $111 for the RT85 instead of getting me whatever she was gonna get me for Christmas. IM HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE IVE JUST ORDERED A BRAND NEW RT85! WEEEHHUUUUUU. Now the question is: will it get here by Christmas? Unlikely, but apparently possible. Dear Banana Yellow AT-LP60, thank you for all the memories but I’m on the bigger and better things.

@djdavedk If you don’t have it already you should download Digit or Qapital, both are incredible apps that help you save towards goals as optimally as possible. Digit is the only reason I was able to save up for this deck in less than 6 months while making a baristas salary (my fiancé and Christmas also helped :$).

If you REALLY want to upgrade your equipment you'll find a way to do it, shaving a little off the LP budget is probably the easiest thing to do............you just gotta want to do it ;)
Only have to save another $111 until I can FINALLY upgrade my AT-LP60 to the Fluance RT85! Haven’t been this excited for anything since I got a puppy :D. I’ve actually stopped spinning my favorite records these past couple months in a paranoid effort to preserve them and not let the supposedly treacherous tracking force on the LP60 hurt my babies.

@duke86fan thanks for sharing and very good to know! I just placed an order for the RT85 though so the paranoia has receded on many levels! Can you explain what wow is? I’ve heard that term around but never understood it.

Good move. 3.5 grams isn't horrible with a properly designed arm and cartridge. Of course, the LP60 has neither.
Do you guys put outer sleeves on records that are stored in box sets?

Depends if I take them out the box or not. I have before but they are all back in boxes now, so not currently

If they fit, yes. With all the other stuff I do this seems like a ridiculous place to draw the line.

I think I have one box set I have individually sleeved; usually they won’t fit like that
Chet Baker boxset is scheduled to be delivered today and Dave Brubeck’s Time Out (33RPM Analogue Productions) is scheduled for Wednesday. So excited for this week!
Got secret Santa paranoia. Want to buy two records off my wantlist rn but for some reason I’m convinced that I’m gonna get one of them in the mail 😬😬😬
Am I missing something or is Sleeve City shipping stupidly expensive?

Yeah, I had four packs of 50 5 mil outer sleeves and it didn’t give me an option for media mail so the cheapest option was $17 on top of an already hefty $72 for the sleeves. I swapped out the 5 mil for 2.5 mil and Media Mail option presented itself. All sorted out, glad I asked before spending $90 on outer sleeves lol
