Vinyl Me Please Rap & Hip Hop

Have you ever listened to Flygod or any of the Hitler Wears Hermes series? Some HWH releases are the best of Griselda imho.
I remember checking them out briefly last year after I was really impressed by Supreme Blientele. They were all a bit hit and miss for me. It’s definitely got that strong East-Coast, detective, smuggling drugs, dark aesthetic overall.....but they’re tiring listens for me.

There’s something special about the instrumentals on Supreme Blientele, even though the production is ‘very’ Griselda. The production on Supreme Blientele is airy has a lot of breathing room yet retains that grimy, crime appeal.

When I heard Brossface Brippler, that’s when I knew Westside Gunn was special. That track has is a twisted, dungeon, torturing, slow jam and I couldn’t believe how good Busta Rhymes sounded on it.

I need to check Flygod. I have to admit I’ve never checked Flygod out (like the first debut studio album). It just feels like with Westside, it’s more quantity over quality. He’s a very talented guy, but out of around 4-5 projects I’ve heard from him, I’ve only been really impressed by one - Supreme Blientele.

Fuck I really hope they go with The Roots this month. Big Boi’s record is good but doesn’t have much replay value in my opinion, How I Got Over just fits a record format way better and that shit is just stupid soulful, would fill my place with those godly vibes. So many good high school memories linked to that album and Undun ❤️

I want Big Boi because there’s so much sex appeal in that album. Tangerine is a 70’s sweaty, dirty, twerking anthem that is commanding. Hustle Blood is a thirsty, horny, tantalising sex jam that had this sadistic quality to it. Turns Me On is a slinky, velvety, low-key bump-n-grind jam that has that sexy Erykah Badu feather-dust cheeky feel. Shutterbugg is a partying, robotic, diva, ass-clapping 80’s club jam, that’s so razor sharp, it’s like the equivalence to a sexy car Ferrari add!

Too much sexy goodness in Big Boi’s Sir Lucious! And it’s such a diverse album musically! I like The Roots’ How I Got Over, but I want that freaky, sex appeal! 😈

Am I too late to join in on the ranking of R&HH ROTMs? For the past year, I'd put em at

1. Saba - Care For Me
2. Outkast - Southernplayalistic
3. Lil Wayne - Tha Carter III
4. Camp Lo - Uptown Saturday Night
5. Handsome Boy Modeling School - So How's Your Girl
6. Juvenile - 400 Degreez
7. Rico Nasty - Nasty
8. Denzel Curry - TA13OO
9. Method Man - Tical
10. Ivy Sole - Overgrown
11. TI - King
12. Knxwledge - Hud Dreems

Second year of R&HH wasn't nearly as good as first year, unfortunately. A couple highlights, but IMO only 3 of these are legitimately great releases, compared to the first year where I'd say at LEAST over half of them were great

I absolutely love ranking things! I only picked up 6 of the last 12. All 6 were very good, but I preferred 1-3 to 4-6. Looking back on it, I should have grabbed Saba, but I have no regrets about the others.
1. Outkast - Southernplayalistic
2. Method Man - Tical
3. Handsome Boy Modeling School - So... How's Your Girl
4. Juvenile - 400 Degreez
5. Camp Lo - Uptown Saturday Night
6. Lil' Wayne - Tha Carter III

My Top 10 VMP R&HH Releases

  1. De La Soul - Buhloone Mind State
  2. MF DOOM - MM..Food
  3. Lil Wayne - Tha Carter III
  4. OutKast - Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik
  5. Noname - Telefone
  6. Saba - Care For Me
  7. Juvenile - 400 Degreez
  8. Snoop Doggy Dogg - Doggystyle
  9. Denzel Curry - Ta13oo
  10. Method Man - Tical

Admittedly, I don't have a copy of Saba. (That month, I swapped it because Noname was available -- No regrets)

I love this list, it gives me a good idea of the kind of hip hop you like!

It’s the same color as the car

yes it’s a bit warped

Think that's just the packaging / shrink wrap, as it followed the bow of the disc in the shrink. Oh well, it may flatten out. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't worth tracking down a flatter copy.

Sound is amazing for contemporary hip-hop on vinyl, loud cut with big fat bass and midrange clarity. This is what I'm talking about with how hip-hop can sound awesome with proper attention on vinyl. Check out the vinyl mastering engineer's post on IG, I'll always take a human who cares about the music over a semi-automated process

Assuming the VMP copies use the same plates as his credits are hard printed. Wish VMP would use him over GZ, but what can you do?

I’d rejoin if Big Boi was album of the month. I love that album. Even after all the bad rep and crap practices i’d love a copy of Sir Lucious....

Cannot rejoin. Rap & Hip Hop sold out....

Thus ends that moral dilemma.

Email info@ and tell them something along the lines of "Good evening, I am hoping that Tyler can help me add on RHH to my monthly plan. He seems to be the only guy that has been able to successfully switch members to that track."

I was able to add it last week with tylers help. Mather and a couple others too. Only Tyler seemed to be able to tho

After the drop of the clue #3 everyone over on Reddit seems to think it’ll be The Roots. I am curious why Big Boi can’t be the solo artist and then a groups be Essentials & Classics? I feel like Essentials could still be any number of things based off the fact that it a “Crate Digger” psych rock pick from 1969. I have heard UFO tossed around a bit but prior to that everyone was sure it was Top Drawer (until Storf nixed it). I guess I just assume Essentials isn’t as big of a lock as others do.
