Yeah I've been refraining on paying over market for any of these,just need to keep reminding themselves they'll eventually be reprinted. Vinyl delays and all.

Hoping. I just found Phantom today at my local! The In Groove also has it for normal price. Pressing plant slots are hard to come by now, but BN had to see how fast some of these sold out and BN Classics have slowly been being repressed. Chick Corea, Nigeria, the Morgan's and Chet Baker are on my list. I will keep my eyes open for Herbs & Roots for you. Seen that somewhere recently.

My BN Classic edition of Maiden Voyage arrived today and it sounds fantastic!! Very dirty right out of the sleeve but no micro scratches or infill that have plagued some of earlier Classic releases.

Merry Ol Soul...is so great...stripped down versions of classics plus Airto on percussion. If this record doesn't put a smile on your face then you just don't get it. Oh, and KG killed it on the mastering....

If the text is correct it looks like this is a Tone Poet box set. Essentially his Blue Note releases as lead plus New And Old Gospel with Jackie McLean (he actually plays trumpet on this album interestingly).
I wonder if these will be made available as individual releases.
For once im actually out, its going to be a killer set though and I would be interested if I didn't already have most of them separately.

Late to the McCoy Tyner party but I finally picked up Expansions today and boy howdy, does this album sound incredible. I'm not a huge Wayne Shorter fan (I know, please don't hit me) but I really like how much he complemented Tyner on piano and Woody Shaw on trumpet throughout this album. And I'm not too familiar with most of Tyner's work so apologies if this is stating the obvious, but I was struck at how almost classical his playing sounds on this album. Sahara is the only other album of his I own, I should probably fix that sooner rather than later.

McCoy has a lot of great albums on Milestone from the 70's that are worth checking out and Extensions on Blue Note is incredible !

Not yet, doesn't look like it's been repressed since the late 70's except for a German pressing in 84 . Tone Poet might do it in the future if the tapes are in good shape but could be a few years down the line.

Then you're in luck, because "The Real McCoy" -arguably his best album- was reissued as part of the Blue Note Classic series. I haven't had a chance to play it yet (thanks to whoever decided to ship my copy inside a plastic envelope instead of a cardboard mailer), but I can imagine it will sound great, and the music itself is top tier Blue Note for me.

Was Wayne Shorter's Adam's Apple getting the BN reissue treatment? I thought I read that somewhere. Doesn't look to be on the upcoming Tone Poet list. Maybe I am confusing that with something else.

So I'm not sure when I'll give it a 2nd chance or maybe I just wasn't in the mood to listen to it but All Seeing Eye was a pretty jarring listen. Perhaps I'm just not a fan of the free jazz genre. It reminded me of the albums when Wayne was a part of Miles Davis' Quintet but I didn't have the same reaction to those. Like I said, maybe it was just how I was feeling that morning.
I wouldn't call it free jazz. It's very symphonic and orchestral in many ways. Read the linear notes with your next listen, it should help you better find what he's getting at. It's a concept album about God creating the Earth.
But for the record its not my favorite of his either.

Yeah I actually bounced off of All Seeing Eye too, which was surprising because I normally like that kind of jazz and I am pretty into Wayne Shorter.

Well I had the Tone Poet and even though I sold it I think the sound quality of the pressing itself was excellent. If you like the music you won't be disappointed at all.

I really like it, its been on my want list for a while so I will likely pick up this Tone Poet pressing at some point.
I remember reading a review of it somewhere that called the playing syle 'controlled freedom' which I really like. There's obviously a high level of control in the sense that the compositions are structured, but also plenty of breathing space for the side-men to really let loose. It's definitely pretty dense and one that you really need to listen to properly (not background music imo) and there's plenty to it.
