Vinyl Me Please Country

This new stream has me delving into the past. This weekend, I started listening to Waylon Jennings for the first time. On. My. Gosh.

I have played Honky Tonk Heroes over and over. What an album. 27 minutes. 10 songs. Every one of them is a killer. The humour, the pathos, the drumming (never thought I’d ever say that!)...

For obvious reasons, I hope it makes the cut for the Country Stream.
Also, check out Billy Joe Shaver who wrote that whole album.

Some people are acting like getting a nice copy of Shotgun Willie is no big deal. It's been reissued once in the past 46 years, and that was in 2009 (the Rhino vinyl). And NM copies go for $70-$80, and the old ones are by no means great pressings. I'm super excited about the VMP version coming later this month (fingers crossed it's a nice pressing and mastering).

Shotgun Willie was my biggest hope the moment they announced Country would be the new track. While I would've been perfectly content with finding a lesser quality repress, I'm truly excited for this pressing.

The only thing more exciting would be a Phases and Stages AAA store drop on Wednesday.
The 2009 Rhino vinyl of Phases And Stages is really good. Not sure of the source, but my copy is the best sounding Willie album I have on vinyl, and I have quite a few. The 2009 Shotgun Willie was not nearly as good as it suffered from sibilance/distortion.

Right. It took me multiple tries to get a used Shotgun Willie in decent shape. And even that set me back like $40. This is a great reissue, and solid pick from Storf (who everyone falsely assumed would just pick albums to fill the wholes in his collection, which Shotgun was definitely not one of).

Does anyone think Willie Nelson will be available for swaps? I stupidly swapped mine out instead of my Hip Hop subscription. I don’t want to miss this one!

Willie sold out if I recall correctly. Probably won't be in swaps. Maybe some copies will get added to the store in a couple of months?

It'll probably be this or it will show up in swaps for all of 5 minutes in two to three months before being gone again. So if you're fast on your swaption game you might get lucky in June or July.

Another country selection that I'd like to see is either one of Zephaniah Ohora's albums. I have the first one (This Highway) on vinyl, and they did a very nice job with it. One of the better sounding records I've purchased in the last year or so. Both of his albums are super solid if by chance you aren't familiar with him.

This Merle Haggard album pick is great, slowly but surely coming around to country. Was reorganizing my collection by genre this weekend and noticed that Country only had one album (Folsom Prison), looks like Merle will make that two and keep Johnny some company.

The way he plays isn't altogether difficult, but it's not easy to play that way and sing so effortlessly. He's good.
