The N&G Top 500 Albums of All Time!!!

I just learned of this thread today, and it sounds like fun, but the rules seem as complex as The Cones of Dunshire. Is there a quick overview someone could share?

Just make a list of your top 50 favorite albums, ranked by preference.

Don’t post the list here; instead, message it directly to @Woob_woob.

Have fun.

No rules, just come up with your 50 favorite albums and don’t publish your list until instructed (we’re still figuring out if lists will be made public before or after a master list). Other than that, hang out and talk about all the reasons why Wesley Willis deserves a spot on the top 500.

quick, to the tinker machine!

Marquee Moon, The Queen Is Dead, Stories from the City..., and Stone Roses are definitely on my list! Dummy and Village Green are maybes. Love seeing A Hard Day's Night up high.

I guess I should start my list. I have 5 albums written down so far. I'm going to try and keep it to 1 album per artist, but I know for a fact that won't be possible.

The running list that I had been keeping on my phone was limited to one per artist, but I don't think I'll restrict myself this time around.

Anyone got any tips for how you're assembling your list? Just going through your record and digital collections and making a Google Doc that you can drag stuff around to rearrange, using a third-party website, etc.?
I created a list in Google docs, which I've added a ranking cell to at the side of each one. Plan is to then sort by that column to get my final order. I have all my digital files in a NAS, so I was able to go through that to pick out my albums, then add the records.

Similar to @Thackeraye I just started a spreadsheet with Artist and album and started to go through my collection. I figure I would make a long list and then start paring it down over the next couple of weeks with the plan to submit by Nov 1

quick, to the tinker machine!
We have 6-7 albums overlapping. Also, bold to go with In Utero over Nevermind!

So I have 50 now. I might want to tweak with the order before I reveal all, I think I might do a reverse play through on Insta for my reveal, cross posting here in groups of 10 might be fun...

Anyway here’s a list of considered ones that didn’t quite make the grade. The near misses if you will. This isn’t exhaustive and of course there may well be some Beatles, Dylan, Bowie, Radiohead, etc. ones that come higher but I’ve only included the odd bigger one by those artists here as they are well represented in my top 50 and regurgitating their discography is no fun for anyone.

So, in no particular order, my honourable mentions are:

The Beatles - Revolver
Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited
The Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers
Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not
Arctic Monkeys - AM
The Band - Songs From Big Pink
The Clash - London Calling
Buzzcocks - Love Bites
Tom Waits - Mule Variations
The War On Drugs - Lost in the Dream
Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run
Travelling Willburys - Volume 1
Super Furry Animals - Fuzzy Logic
Morrissey - Viva Hate
Morrissey - You Are The Quarry
Nirvana - In Utero
The Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago
Idlewild - Hope Is Important
The Coral
Paul McCartney & Wings - Band on the Run
The Stone Roses
The La’s
Suede - Dog Man Star
Prince - Sign “O” The Times
Prince - Purple Rain
Pulp - Different Class
Elastica
Joni Mitchell - For The Roses
Queens of the Stone Age - Rated R
At The Drive-In - Relationship of Command
