Wax Buyers Club

That... sounds like a lot. How often do you use Optimal, and do you think Gz and the others will increase their prices as well?

Oh and speaking of Optimal, I'm spinning my replacement Brooks right now and it's a million times better. I can actually get through the first song on Side D!

It is a lot. The Brooks have been pressed by Optimal. The label switch from MPO to Optimal because of COVID. MPO asked them to pay the pressing upfront despite a 10 years partnership with no problem.
Oh no! That's such a big increase! Is that where most of the Wax Buyers Club ROTM's get pressed!? 👀👀👀

It depends. We've been working with 5 or 6 different pressing plant this past 2 years.

Wow! That's almost a VMP increase!

Yes, I'm affraid this is just the beginning. PIAS did increase its price a bit already.
I did past all the order until march 2020 so WBC is cool until then.

A price increase of our membership is not on the table.

Okey, found the next AotM, not my favourite release from this project.

I kinda hoped it was Fumuj's record from 2010, but nope.

(Edit : @Edd please issue Monstrueuse Normalité or Robot & Chinese Shrimp from Fumuj on vinyl. I dare you !)

What about the album do you have mixed feelings on? Great to know you generally like the artist/band if you enjoy other albums more by them!

This a "formula project" and I think it gets tired after a few records, I really like the first two that were issued, but I don't click with this one, probably because it's mostly sung in french and I'm very picky about my french lyrics music. Not everybody is Francis.

Omg Christo, I found the album!!!!! I briefly checked it out, and then heard the project’s debut self-titled and definitely preferred it more too! The debut is much more flirtatious, moody, charming and romantic and has this innocent wanderlust curious quality to it, whereas their 2010 album is a bit polished and doesn’t have that same originality I got from their debut...

I actually see where you are coming from and agree with you! I am happy I discovered the project’s debut album though! The debut feels like a crate-diggers classic even though it has some popular tracks on there!

Actually I prefer this one as I see this album as an excellent starting point to French music with younger generation singing version of French classics. It may not work as well as on their first albums but still works well enough for me.

I do not know Fumuj, just started a listening on Spotify. It is Jarring Effects? It is time to get back in touch with Monsieur Mo.

As @Skalap said, this choice makes sense if you're looking this from a "chanson française" perspective. I must say that I almost never listenning this genre. And this album is a really good way to get into it, a perfect mix with the new generation (back in 2010) and some classics.
The second reason is that the other albums have already been repressed 2 or 3 years ago, and the repress has been well made There was no point to repress them again.

Holy crap, now that I've finally spun it a few times The Brooks is a phenomenal album. How did you find this band @Edd? A funk band from Montreal seems... really random!

All credits are for Maxime, from Underdog Records. He made me listening the pre mix one year ago, I did not wait the end of the first song to give him a call.

That's so awesome, and you have the only variant of it on vinyl, too. Even the packaging and artwork to it is great. One of the reasons I love vinyl clubs is discovering hidden gems I never would have found on my own like The Brooks.

Thanks. :)

Another vinyl release is on its way, on September the 23th. From time to time, our exclusive is on your turntable weeks or months before the street release date. And this is really cool IMO.

There are other vinyl clubs who start shipping their variants months after the release date.

I’m looking forward to this release! I like the album and I think it’s a unique pick! I like the reasoning behind the picks too! I’m very excited to see the packaging for this album too! I think I will enjoy this album on my turntable! I don’t have many French albums at all, so this will be a welcome addition! 😄👍🌹
