Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

I had almost no incentive to leave the month to month, but now I'm considering the $299 for a year since it's significantly cheaper than $43 a month. No chance I'm going to do month to month, or even 3 months at a time, the discount just isn't good enough.

Unpopular opinion to stay subscribed, but I really like their classics track and I'll add and drop RHH and Essentials when I want something.

These changes are definitely going to tighten my purchases up for add-on's to only tracks that I'm dead set on.
Yep me too, as an international I'm currently paying $47 a month for the main track. If I go one year on the discounted plan it actually drops to $41. It's risky because the real value was in the $23 side subs which are now $33 but... With a one in three chance of getting a good album... $41 CAD is still an slightly above average standard record price in Canada after tax... So I might be willing to roll the dice and continue on for a year at that price, until the new pricing kicks in or they go tits up.

Don’t do it...save your money for more MOFIs or APs

They're between $75-100 CAD now. I have to look for deals to make them palatable.
Yeah, there's no many AP pressings I want, but international shipping is just too much! Same case with MoFi, they're just too expensive for me to get. Speakers Corner reissues are priced decently in a store I buy from in Australia, but the MoFi's are still so expensive. So, I just go for Speakers Corner reissues now, but it would be nice to have the flexibility with MoFi and AP.

Some Speakers Corners are right there with AP in my books sound wise, the only difference I tend to find is the pressings can sometimes be a little more suspect... I almost never get any pops at all on APs, SC I sometimes have a few. But nothing terrible. I seek out SC and Pure Pleasure as much as I can simply because the APs and Mofi's are so damn expensive now.

Cancelled my Classics track. Haven't played any of the past couple months of that one anyway and the Erroll Garner wasn't that great of a pick - being that it can be found pretty regularly in the used bins for cheap. None of them have been worth 33 bucks for a long time.

I still have a couple months left of this 3 month sub of Essentials, so I'll wait and see what they have coming.

Went ahead and cancelled the Essentials, too.

sadly the hard part of those saying "just get mofis and AP instead"... i mean sure they have some very quality stuff but not everyone is going to want the harry belafonte and classical and jazz a lot of AP does.. and im not BIG on a lot of the classic rock that mofi does beyond dylan

VMP did pressings of popular records for people like me more into trendier art and more modern picks

Spot on there. MoFi do have Weezer still, but that's about it except the new wave stuff they did on the silver label. I wish they would do more things like Pixies, or at least repress them for people who didn't get them. They definitely do a lot of snooozer dad rock.

audiophile hip hop reissues are completely ignored and its not like VMP really does a great job there either...

the highest level pressing they did for one was slowthai since it was pressed by QRP, and besides that snoop dogg sounded fantastic... i want a hip hop title pressed on a high quality record... give us 2pac or kanye or the beastie boys on a high quality pressing (like how KSG is on RTI)

Now I’m actually nervous I won’t get the records I already ordered from them.

$43 for a John Mayer record. I can think of very few VMP "Essentials" releases that I would pay $43 for. I am the furthest I've been from the moment I first opened the VMP box my wife got me for Christmas 2017 with Sorcerer by Miles Davis in it. That feeling is completely gone now.

I have around 1,000 records. I can’t think of 5 that I’ve paid $43 or more for.

Re-subbed with a 3 for 2 deal to get Spiritualized. Depending on what the next three essentials were I may have conveniently forgot to cancel. Not now. Insane.

The first thing I did was create a reminder on my phone to cancel before my subscription renews.

If you like VMP's curation, you can follow along with what they release for free and then buy it elsewhere. Bandcamp, Bullmoose, your local... It's extremely rare that they have any TRUE exclusives now. I started buying "exclusives" through other avenues like those listed and every single time I have gotten my album way before VMP sent theirs out and I paid less.

Exactly, you can still use VMP’s curation. Just last night I ordered a copy of The Magician on Discogs for under $10 (including shipping). There’s no rational reason to crave the “definitive” version of every album (and most VMP releases are far from that, anyway).

Then re-sub for 1 month if it's a title you absolutely need. I've spent $40+ on an album before that I really wanted. But the amount of money (and headaches) you'll save versus trying to convince yourself that you really need one of their ROTMs will be more than worth it. I'd be shocked if they do Channel Orange or Section 80 but if they do one of those, I may hop in for a month. This was the nail in the coffin for me though.

I agree with this too. If VMP presses Channel Orange, I’d rather dip in at the higher monthly price than commit to a longer plan.

Also, since VMP is losing all their last defenders, should we reopen discussion to consolidate their threads? 😂

Brilliant sniping job!
