Vinyl Me Please Essentials

now i just got to relisten to prince paul (again) and see if i like it (the 10th time i heard the opening though so thats what bugs me)

If you're enjoying it, you should get it. It looks like this is the first vinyl release, too. I'm happy for anyone who wants it.

I think I'm being so negative about all of this because I've never really enjoyed his music, only inadvertently guessed this album because I was trying to undermine the confidence expressed in the Bob Dylan guess, and now feel weird about him being picked. I'm very very surprised that VMP picked this album, but didn't mean to pass judgment on anyone who wants to snag it.

I did pull out my copy of Cat Power's "The Greatest" to listen it again just to see, and I don't desperately need an upgrade for it, so I'll be fine.

EDIT: looks like it was released on vinyl a few other times

no there are other vinyl releases...

MOV has a pressing

also i am noticing a problem of it being SUPER one note and would probably only listen to the occasional song and nothing else. its very simplistic and i dunno if i'd ever listen to it on vinyl. i like cute folk guys singing about girls because of gender euphoria and john mayer is no elliott smith

There’s like 4 pressings prior to this one. All pretty readily available (except maybe the 2006 original press)

Not to be that person, but there's no reason to pass judgment on others for their musical tastes or interests. There's joy in listening to what you like, even those things that seem out of character or aren't in popular taste.

the only issue is you might look like a douche

even as someone who doesn't hate the album still thinks its not an essential and pretty flawed.. mostly because its one note and doesn't have the emotive delicacy of an elliott smith or the surreal writing of a mark kozelek or in depth analysis of a destroyer... he is a basic singer songwriter is what im saying

We all have our guilty pleasures, but we are supposed to be embarrassed by them, and expect some ribbing if anyone finds out. Being a John Mayer fan is a take it to your grave secret. Lol

Didn’t someone say though that there weren’t anymore hints because storf knew about the link trick and thought we could figure it out? I wonder if he had someone just throw this up there to make it feel like a big reveal when it ends up actually being bob dylan or cat power.

Not necessarily the end of hints, just that they have to figure out a way around the link trick. It did cross my mind that they could do some fake mockups of the leading contenders, but that sounds like effort. They'll likely either change the file names to something that can't be easily guessed, or they won't upload those images until the last possible moment.

My hope is they "fix" this like they fixed the magazine on-member/unlimited order workaround, shipping, and oversell issues. Not at all
