Vinyl Me Please Essentials

Certainly people are gonna like what they like. There are a lot of technically great guitar players that I find incredibly boring. It bothers me less that he is a douchey ass hat (It probably makes him more interesting), than that he writes milquetoast boring MOR music, the type that gets played in a bank lobby.
I don't disagree with any of this. I get a little fussy that that someone that good at playing let's the arrangements land in such a boring place. I watched a talk he did for a music program once where he basically admitted that he had a choice to make along the way to be a "hit" or write interesting music. I respected his honesty and he didn't try to tell the students he was right. He attested his personal life struggles to being unhappy with that decision and encouraged them to pick which one they valued more and then just be honest with themselves about it.

we can talk about weeb shit in DMs... im busy with K-on, made in abyss, cardcaptor sakura, sing yesterday for me, kokoro connect, and more

also hopefully the new GITS series on netflix will be good

but i think i am on this new thing

i have the same opinion of "i dont want this album".. but its more matured, i just dont think there is enough for me to want any more of it on vinyl
Fair, I've been meaning to catch up with a couple so will shout hello tomorrow there. Cardcaptors was my gateway drug all those years ago in my teens and I'm not uncertain it didn't contribute to some of my growing sentiment around another thing we share in common, judging by your twitter bio at least. Would be good to hear your thoughts as to what I might enjoy dipping my toe into off of those I've liked.

That's fair on the album. For me it's a pretty run of the mill album but 'comfortable' I guess. Have some memories tied to it around an old close friend that probably trends it higher than it would otherwise. I'll be looking at the swaptions to see if anything knocks it off but it'd be nice to have there in case the silly toss ever swings back around my neck of the woods again.

I’d rather talk weeb shit than John Mayer tbh
I don’t even know what that is but I am completely on board.

Preach! Shitty old racist Clapton is someone who I find unendingly dull, technical proficiency be damned!

I'm still hoping it's a joke they came up with after they (finally) wised up to how we were figuring it out in advance.

If it's not a joke, the only marginally amusing thing about it will be reading their copy trying to justify it. They're really scraping the bottom of the barrel for reissue ideas to land here.

Granted, I feel this way about almost all pop music, but this selection would be truly pointless other than to move units for someone who doesn't need it. Were they unable to line up Jack Johnson?

ETA - while I respect that Bob, Mickey, and Bill are still out there doing their thing, Dead & Co is *not* The Grateful Dead. We all know Storf is sometimes bad with clues, but this is stretching the association beyond credulity.

This isn't that far out of left field after pitchfork dropped that Sunday review of Room for Squares and gave it like an 8. We've reached the critical reevaluation of John Mayer now that he's Dead adjacent and this arguably is his best album (although Born and Raised is a legit good album by him).

This might be inconsistent from someone that has been ragging on John Mayer but I am fine with Jack Johnson and Dave Matthews and shit like that. I think those guys are who they are no one is gonna go on a diatribe about how technically proficient Jack Johnson at the guitar is if you don’t like his music. He makes laid back folk pop for the Hollister set and that’s fine. I think what probably rubs me the wrong way about Mayer is if you don’t like him it’s because you just don’t get it 🙄. He also parades himself around like he’s Keith Richards and then plays “Daughter” which would be hilarious if he were in on the joke.

I haven’t found too many people saying if you don’t like him, you don’t get it. I do think a lot of people write off Mayer and say he’s not a good musician because all they know about him is his solo hits like Daughters (a song I absolutely despise) and I think it’s a bit of an unfair statement. The dude can play. Mayer and Gary Clark Jr are in the same kind of boat for me: I’m not a fan of their songwriting but recognize that they are both really talented musicians.
