Upcoming/Recent Shows

Live music is happening again....

....in New Zealand!

Listen to Nadia Reid if you don’t already, she’s great!

My local radio station has been doing Studio Z (Zoom) and they've been pretty enjoyable. Had Scott from Red Wanting Blue a few weeks back, Margaret Glaspy yesterday and we're going to have Nicole Atkins (!!!!!!) next week.

I know there are artists live streaming something literally 24/7, but there's something about a live interview and having the artist be able to actually see our reactions makes it seem a little more...real.

Wow. This is so much better than the horseshit he pulled when I saw him live this year. He decided to do some faux-jam band rock show where none of his older material was even recognizable. It was probably the most disappointing show I’ve been to.

I would definitely pay to see him do a tour of this.

I saw a show tonight. It was so good to be back.

It was a Drive in show outside Pigeon Forge, TN with Marcus King Band. The layout was very well done and I felt pretty darn safe. Limited to 250 cars, max 6 people per car. We were about 4 rows back, not the best view, but dammit we took it. Last show of the short tour, and he brought out his dad for a killer cover of Whipping Post. The encore was 3 songs with Brent Hinds for Mastodon, including an incredible cover of War Pigs. Brought our own drinks and snacks.

I snuck up briefly for some pics.

I was Not sure what thread to post this in.

Seeing as COVID has shut down our ability to attend concerts in the traditional sense, I thought maybe the COVID-19 thread.
@mcherry pointed me in the right direction.....which was this thread.

Live Cure, Pulp, McCartney, The Who and others going up on Youtube to sponsor the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Austin City Limits This Weekend On Youtube.

N&G Favorites Durand Jones and the Indications opens on Friday.
Friday seems like the day for the under 30 crowd; Saturday is for Music Nerds; and Sunday is for the Over 40 crowd.
IF they swapped Willie and The XX, this analysis would be mostly unassailable.

Yeah, Saturday is looking tasty.

Who else is doing Hold Steady this weekend?
I was "there" last night! I don't think I really realized how much I've missed live music, or that watching a concert alone in my basement could bring me a euphoric adrenaline rush*. I was weirdly sitting there beaming from ear to ear.

I couldn't stop thinking about how weird it must be for the band to play in an empty room with so much energy. Does it feel (a bit) contrived to them, or do they get into it? I laughed out loud when Craig started doing his hand claps to the non-existent crowd. I bought all three nights, but may have to watch tonight or tomorrow on delay. We'll see.

MASSIVE NIGHTS!

*it might have been more than the music, if I'm being honest.

Watched today’s set and had the same feeling -first time this year I truly missed being at a show. Got a little emotional a few times to be honest. What’s a Hold Steady show without hugging a stranger? Glad the band did these though. You could tell it meant a lot to a lot of people.
