Needles & Grooves AotM /// Vol. 12 - June 2020 /// Tortoise - TNT

@sjaygray, the creator of the thread for each AOTM is the person picking the album

Oh. I see. New month, new thread. Got it. Well, to @sjaygray, nice pick. We must be in sync. Just days before you started this thread, I actually posted this on my IG account.

To anyone that's new to Tortoise, it's also worth checking out Millions Now Living Will Never Die.

The quality of this video isn't great, but the set definitely is.

@Indymisanthrope you like The Sea & Cake, but I can't remember; are you much of a Tortoise, fan?

I feel like Millions Now Living May Never Die was the more obvious pick for a Tortoise album, but TNT has always been my favorite. I think that plays a lot into the time in my life which it found me, but I’ll get into that more when I have time to do my full write up on the pick! But yes, everyone should check that one out as well!

That's exactly where I'm at with it, but I love the Pajo era, in general.. TNT is my favorite. I listen to it more and I would have gone with the same album. Similarly, Perfect From Now On might be, objectively, the "best" Built To Spill album, but There's Nothing Wrong With Love is still my personal favorite. Plus, I think TNT is a better introduction if you're recommending either of them to a group of people in a situation like this. I love "Djed" and I love Millions, but that's a 21-minute song right out the gate

I just wrote to the UK rep to see if there's an option available for the Euro team (black will do is the fancy colored version is not available).

and by the way... it really sounds like we are zeroing on the correct guess!
wink wink!

Did they answer you? I'd rather buy from the label than from another shop.

Oh yes they did!
The label went through the relocation of their offices from the UK to Berlin and deactivated the ship from the EU option... this should be back up in a week, so in time for the announcement..... (I got their response a week ago) hence they'll have the black double LP (no colored version available in EU) ready to ship.

Great pick! I had never heard this album, and had a wonderful time listening to it in the garden out in the sun.

I grabbed that Clear with Hi-Melt black variant from Thrill Jockey. A little pricey as shipping to the UK cost more than the record itself, but the two I tried to get off Discogs both had the wrong listing up and only had the standard black pressing in stock.

FYI, I'll let you know when i have more information

If you’re interested in getting involved or checking out the past AoTMs then we’ve just started a year 1 review here, it has a list of all the first years albums and links to their threads in the first post:

Also if you want to be considered as a future picker the admin thread is here. I choose the pickers by random draw a month before they have to start their thread. The only real rule is that there is good US/EU/UK availability at approx 30 $\£\€:

I’m sorry all of you EU folks are still getting shafted on shipping fees! I did reach out previous to all of this and was told there was plenty of inventory and that shipping overseas wasn’t an issue. Hopefully this gets sorted soon and you all can order direct with more appropriate shipping fees very soon!

Its actually ok! There are plenty of black copies out there on Juno/Norman’s records/amazon for a fair price and I’m not grumbling at €31 inc delivery because I fancied the fancy one!

No worries :) It's easily available from many EU shops, I just try to purchase directly from the labels/artists when I can. If i can't I'll purchase from a local record shop.
