Vinyl Me Please Anthology

Almost all of the box sets have been similar pricing. All sub 300, some as low as 200. I'm guessing this is going to be same price as the Zamrock box set which was something like $220 with early bird pricing and discount code for purchasing a previous anthology (those codes seem to be easily obtained if you have not purchased before).
Motown was $345

That's crazy haha. Did anybody pay that though? Looked it up again and it was $295 early + a discount for previous anthology subscribers. $345 after that the initial window.
Haha yeah I hope nobody paid that much. I can see a Herbie box being one of the higher priced sets though, assuming it’s AAA.

I don’t know about all of you but I am so freaking excited about this Herbie Hancock Anthology Boxset! Especially as the recent VMP Anthologies have been sublime in terms of pressings and presentations/rollout! 👌

THIS BOXSET IS GOING TO BE SEMI LIFE-CHANGING FOR ME! 💯

I’ve got pretty much all of Miles Davis MoFi pressings and I’m so stoked to know that I’ll have a great collection of Herbie Hancock too - where are all the pressings I have will be quality ones! 💎

I’m definitely going to be listening to the podcast and am going to be fully immersing myself in all the Herbie Hancock albums! 🎹🎧👨‍💻

I’M SO EXCITED THINKING ABOUT IT ALL 😇🥳😃🤙✌️

I’m not going to be really buying any upcoming VMP store exclusives unless it’s an amazing store exclusive because I need to make sure I can comfortable pay for this Anthology! And I’d rather invest my money into this than into general store exclusives!

The jazz I currently prefer is typically late 50s to mid 60s, I haven't gotten into the majority of Herbies music enough to warrant a £300+ spend and all the stress that comes with a vmp purchase.

I'll keep an eye on how this progresses tho, Herbie comes across as a great guy and I'd be intrigued to find out which albums he's chosen.

Fair enough! I do think a lot of his fusion albums will be in this box set because you can’t tell the story of Herbie without showing how versatile and adaptive he was.

I would imagine a BN75 would be one of them since those were pretty hit or miss. Maiden Voyage and Empyrean Isles were two.

Empyrean got a Music Matters release, so I selfishly hope its not included as I spent $75 on it direct and its the only warped MM I own. They wanted me to return it for a refund, no replacement so I just held on to it. sigh...

Herbie is a hard pass for me, great musician with great albums, but not what I am looking for in an Anthology. I Enjoyed Ghostly despite the 'deception' and am excited for Zamrock, so I am looking forward to seeing what they put out later this year, hopefully putting the spotlight back on more obscure Label/Genre journeys.

I have to say I am really on the fence about Herbie. For me it will come down to what titles are included and of course cost. I have several recent reissues which I doubt VMP would include. I do hope they include something that has not been released on vinyl before, most likely a live album.

I could see Mwandishi making it's way into the Anthology. It was a pretty substantial shift away from what he had been creating up until that point and en route to Headhunters.
In his autobiography he stated that he played his best performance during his Mwandishi years, so I definitely agree with you on this one being added!

Zamrock Anthology now finally listed as "Sold Out" I wonder if it actually did or they just decided that since they're already pushing the next one better make this one look good!

I'm a little conflicted about this set, I am excited about it and was happy they stepped out of their comfort zone but the pricing still kills me every time! Ideally I would love to see them do small runs of more obscure labels or genres but at a much more reasonable price point but I know that's never going to happen!

I would have loved this set, but the pricing was a no go. Hate to see what they're going to charge for Herbie.

It would make sense for this to cost 300

8 albums
Probably including a double LP
Most likely QRP and mostly AAA
VMP tax

Blue Note was $230
Motown was $265
Stax was $230

I could see Herbie clocking in at $300 with early bird and a discount code to bring it closer to the Stax and Blue note pricing. They pushed the pricing a little too far with Motown and I think they had a hard time selling it. Hopefully they don't push Herbie too high, even though it's almost definitely going to sell out.

WITH early bird status

blue note was 280 without it

motown was almost 350 from what i remember

Motown was $295 early bird price + $30 off if you previously bought an Anthology. The regular price was $345.Snip20200416_7.png

Yes, all of the numbers I listed included the early bird and a discount code aside from Blue Note which did not have a discount code.

The prices after discount line up with Herbie being around $300-$325 at full price. After discounts and early bird I see it falling into the $250 range.

Motown was ridiculously priced because VMP saw Blue Note Anthology sell out in hours and they got greedy.
