Television

We've checked out the first few episodes of Avenue 5, which have been hilarious. I am on temporary streaming hold until I get a new ISP though. Called Spectrum to complain about how terrible our speeds were, was offered a faster plan for 3x what we currently pay, declined the offer, and MYSTERIOUSLY it is now way worse than it was in the first place. Bandwidth throttling is the biggest god damn racket.

In true Stephen King fashion. Have you read the novel? I haven't so I have no clue how this will all play out but I'm very intrigued.
I have not read the novel. He scares me too much.

I'm completely intrigued. My cousin talked me through his theory so I'm a bit more settled about it. I guess my angst was that when I went into this show, I didn't know that I would have to suspend a certain amount of disbelief. Like, with Game of Thrones, I knew going in that it was fantasy and so my expectations were set. Whereas for The Outsider, I thought it was a drama about a murder. I didn't realize there was some other aspect to it so it was all just confusing to me. I'm better now.

I knew going into it that it would likely be more than just another crime investigation drama miniseries. Afterall it's based on a novel of the same name by the king horror himself. However what I didn't know was whether would be dealing with a psycho killer or a supernatural entity.

I know the ending to The Outsider. Haven’t read it but had it spoiled. Still haven’t watched the show, but I’m planning to. Really I only know the basic setup and then the ending; nothing else. So it should still be surprising and worth it?

I have zero idea where it is heading so I don't know if knowing the ending will ruin it or not. The performances are really good though!

I'm currently re-watching Idiot Abroad and as much as I enjoy(ed) it, man, there are some very problematic bits in this show that I didn't remember at all.

Brit Marling has an op-ed in NYT today:

This is really working for me on two levels:

1. It's just a great piece.
2. It does nothing to counter the theories that The OA isn't over. In fact I think some people will read the last few lines of the column and only become more convinced.
