To Cy & Lee: Instrumentals Vol. 1, by Alabaster DePlume really on the fence about pre-ordering the limited edition here. On one hand the one track available is fucking BEAUTIFUL but on the other hand I’m not familiar with the artist at all but the description for album has really peaked my interest. What’s the verdict on this Alabaster DePlume fellow? Is this sure to be worth the money?
For me, the one track sold me immediately. I do feel you about being on the fence about it, though. I'm still on the fence about the Jeff Parker album even with two tracks available to listen to now. I mean, it's good, but sampling, midi, and that kind of stuff is a hard sell for me and idk how much I'd actually reach to put it on 6 months from now.

This might be of interest to some of you. I picked up this sealed record for £15 the other week on a whim. Never heard it before but it says it is a limited pressing (hand numbered with 500 copies) of a rare spiritual jazz record. These were originally pressing with hand written labels and sold at their live shows. Its a fantastic record, really great stuff.

"A fascinating hybrid of early 60's Coltrane, early 70's Miles Davis, and Ravi Shankar. This album was a very limited press that was handed out at their shows and sold to local stores. Only together for nine months, Mike Selesia and band recorded this album in one day while high on weed and opium laced tootsie rolls."

Saw this record, along with some others put out by the same label (MadAboutRecords) at my local the other day. Didn't pick this one up, but was definitely intrigued. Just sampled a bit and might have to go back for it. That cover is crazy too.

Some fantastic news today. Muriel Grossmann is planning a small tour of the UK this year. She even has some of the dates set, with London’s the Church Of Sound being on the 9th October. Tickets don’t seem to be available yet but I’m really really hoping to get one, they tend to sell out fast. @Mr Moore you will likely be interested in this.

Edit: I will keep an eye out for these to be released but if anyone notices the Chuch Of Sound tickets on sale it would be appreciated if you could tag me? Really don’t want to miss this one.....although it’s almost a year away 😂

8 of the tracks have already been released, and are readily available for streaming. They are instrumentals pulled from some of his previous releases...you can find them on ‘Peach’, ‘Copernicus’ and ‘Not My Ask’. The remaining 3 tracks are new and still unreleased.

I am in on just about anything IA puts out these days. Going in blind...

Some really nice pieces on this one. The variety of styles gives it a compilation feel. You can definitely hear the chemical “inspiration” on the Castle Spook tracks 😂.thanks for sharing

Jazz Saxophone Legend Jimmy Heath Has Died

For those of you that haven't heard yet, saxophonist Jimmy 'Little Bird' Heath passed away yesterday. I always found him to be an underrated musician, he really pushed the boat out at times especially with his arrangements and compositions. Usually seen as a subtler musician by his peers, but he was pivotal in pushing bebop and hard-bop to the masses. I have been meaning to pick up his book, 'I Walked With Giants', for a while now and I think the title he chose perfectly sums him up as someone that was always admiring and rooting for his fellow musicians. He even gained the nickname 'Little Bird' for his love of Charlie 'Bird' Parker.

A great guy for sure.

Have just seen that Alfa Mist - Structuralism is going for £14.99 as a sale item on Sister Ray. Great album and worth picking up at that price if you enjoy his other projects. Not sure what the shipping is like for International...
My Uber driver recommended them to me last night, been listening lately, really dig it

From the newsletter:
New mysterious release! Błoto is a jazz quartet consist of EABS members.
bloto.bandcamp.com/album/erozje

NO MUSIC YET. NO COVER YET. STRAIGHT Błoto MUSIC.
200 COPIES PRE-ORDER. AROUND 100 COPIES LEFT!
PREMIERE NO LATER THAN APRIL. DON'T MISS IT! 💩

“The music is deeply rooted in brutal hip-hop grooves, referring quite loosely to the sound of the 90s. Dirty and uncompromising, this music's strength lies in the drums and bass. Radical in a sense, it also captures the atmosphere of the times in which it is created. The times of distinct social divisions, hate speech, growing nationalism, police brutality, nepotism, political deals and the dismantling of legal state structures. All this is happening before our eyes. Our soil is eroding right now.”

Expanded reissue of this incredible duo session. Looks like the Ali family is involved too, so it is legit. If I recall correctly the OG is often $200 or so and this reissue has even more material on it.
This is fantastic news, thanks for sharing. I once skipped an OG at £110 but regretted it afterwards because I never thought I’d see a reissue. Over the moon, cheers.

Im sure you have seen this too, but they also have the 'Live At Slugs' reissue

First Time Out: Live at Slugs 1967, by Rashied Ali Quintet

I was going to order both a few nights ago but im hoping for a UK supplier to have them. Quite pricey otherwise

I'd not seen either, so cheers. Yeah, both a bit steep, hoping at least Juno might stock these, hella pricey with shipping otherwise.
That was my hope. I messaged the label through bandcamp to ask if they will have any UK or European distributors so I will let you know if I hear back.

Thought you fine people might enjoy this read:

Been listening to quite a few records engineered by Roy DuNann and I have to say...he gives RVG a run for his money!
