This sounds fun. Didn't expect it to be so hard to find though. Doesn't seem to be in my library's system even. Might just bite the bullet on the unabridged on Amazon. Not sure it is worth saving 5 bucks or so on an older version that will take longer to get here.

I’ll start a new thread in a few days and link it here so we don’t overtake this one with one specific book. We’ll see how it goes: I haven’t read this and have no idea how much actual discussion we’ll want to have about it, or if it’ll be fairly lightweight.

I think there is a sort of complicated way to cheat the system but you aren't supposed to be able to for some frustrating reason.

We are supposed to get Zelazny, but I only say the Laymon one in the Apple store, hence my question. My search may have been bad, though.

I don’t know. I’m not too familiar with Kindles. I just downloaded this to the app on my phone. I might have a heavily abridged version though because it’s only 264 pages on my phone (like phone-sized pages, I mean) but I have the illustrations in the chapters, and I think that would be the first thing they’d cut, right? But if that’s really how long it is - I won’t mind reading a chapter a day on my phone since most chapters aren’t much longer than 5 pages or so.

Chapter 1 is only 2 pages - does that sound right?

Yep, that’s the one. Like I said, the copy I have is only 288 pages, and I think that includes some illustrations, so it’s going to be pretty light reading day to day.

Apparently it’s common to start with the intro, separate from Chapter 1, on September 30, so that you truly do have only one ‘chapter’ a night for 32 nights. I’ll plan to set it up that way once the new thread is up.

No idea. That seems short, unless the paperback unabridged version on Amazon has a ton of extra stuff. It is listed as 288 pages.
 
I’m reading The Goldfinch and am now in the final section I think. It is pretty damn long. And yes I am very late to the party. But anyway...I’m liking it quite a bit. I’ve read both intensely high praise and intensely furious hatred. I guess I’m in the middle. It’s very good, but not a masterpiece or anything. Also all the criticisms I’ve read i just don’t agree with. I’ve seen many people hating the “Vegas section” of the book but that was some of the best to me. I don’t find it boring at all, or pedestrian or whatever. The story is simple in a way, but I have a feeling I know what it’s doing and why it’s so long, and I’m feeling its intentions now as I reach the final...200 pages.

edit: also apparently the movie adaptation that just came out is awful.

I really enjoyed it.

The actors/actresses they chose for the movie do not at all look like how I pictured the characters in my mind.

I'm reading Behold, the Dreamers right now. I'm quite enjoying it. I know it's a few years old. Anyone else read it?
 
Just found out N.K. Jemisin has the first book of a new series she is starting coming out next Spring. I know that's a long way off but it got me excited because I absolutely loved The Broken Earth trilogy.
