Ten Favorite Albums of the Decade (2010-2019)

What the fuck does that mean? And yours and pitchfork’s taste is universal?

it means that Chicago-based Pitchfork writers often present in a snobbish and pretentious manner...in my opinion often over-value the "new" and"innovative" to stay trendy/create trends...and I was surprised by how many artists and albums in my wheelhouse made their list.

it was also rather tongue-in-cheek.

The fact that they value innovation and is a large part of what I appreciate about them... even if I often disagree with their taste in rap because of it.

It's almost November of 2019, so this thread should be getting some action. I'm still fine-tuning my list (the one I posted on page 3 was only a place holder), I may actually end up with a top 20 or top 25 (or a top 10 with 10-15 HMs).
Yeah I've been trying to gear my music listening towards finalizing a list. I think I'll be able to get through spinning all of my 2010-19 records plus there's been a lot of streaming involved trying to make sure I'm not missing anything. What I have now is fairly different than the original list I posted in here. I feel pretty set on the top 5ish I have now but 6 through 30ish has been hard to nail down.

It's been interesting to see which albums haven't clicked with me like they used to and discovering albums that are clicking in a way they hadn't before.

So I'm gonna be that asshole and re-post my lists here so that I have them side by and side and it becomes easier to edit them / people can see them next to each other. They've been heavily tweaked since this thread first started as I've spent the past months re-exploring old loves and finding space for 2019 releases. I'm aiming for a playlist of 220 albums by the end of the year.

Has anyone seen/made a spotify playlist that's basically a huge dumping ground of any of the major publication's top 100 albums? Or I suppose we could make our own here too.

This is nearly an impossible task. Not too tough on myself, just listed 20 albums that really shaped this decade for me, but there are obviously lots of other records I loved. Also didn't include any 2019 albums, but that's not to say I didn't think any 2019-record deserved a spot here, it's rather the opposite, so many great records IMO this year. But when I think about "decade", I probably think more about records that I listened to the past few years, not months.

1. Joanna Newsom - Have One On Me
2. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Push The Sky Away
3. Julia Holter - Have You In My Wilderness
4. Angel Olsen - My Woman
5. Susanne Sundfor - Ten Love Songs
6. The War On Drugs - Lost In The Dream
7. Solange - A Seat At The Table
8. Father John Misty - I Love You, Honeybear
9. Agnes Obel - Aventine
10. Anna Calvi - Anna Calvi
11. Ibeyi - Ibeyi
12. King Krule - The Ooz
13. FKA twigs - LP1
14. Fiona Apple - The Idler Wheel...
15. Frank Ocean - Blonde
16. Shame - Songs Of Praise
17. Melody’s Echo Chamber - Melody’s Echo Chamber
18. Wild Beasts - Present Tense
19. Sevdaliza - ISON
20. The National - Sleep Well Beast

And CoS

This blurb of CRJ's EMOTION may just be my favorite thing ever (even if they have the album at a way too low #90). I'll let you all decide why. Paging @Tyr

There is no bad song on E•MO•TION. There is not even an “only pretty okay” song. It’s the pinnacle of pop, and yet somehow it pushed Jepsen out of the mainstream and into a niche of die-hard weirdos with big feelings and impeccable taste. It’s good, though, because we love her here and she loves us, and we all love synths and sax and neon backlighting and boys. Just when it seemed like the ’80s had been mined to death for inspiration, Jepsen (along with collaborators including Dev Hynes, Sia, and Rostam Batmanglij) pulled the best, funnest, and most melodramatic parts and remixed them into track after track of explosive contemporary hooks.

OMG did they actually use the phrase "Impeccable taste"?!?! That's amazing!

You write for CoS, dont you? Between that line, them being the only one to rank Lemonade higher than S/T, and the only one to rank SK at all it wouldnt surprise me.

Although I think that CoS list is the weakest of the 3

Shhhhhhh..... don't tell EVERYONE what my side gig is.

But you are right. Those 3 things made me like this list the best.

Surprisingly, I think the Stereogum list is easily my least favorite of any to come out thus far from a publication I frequent.

Current list in no particular order. Will probably change before the end of the year.

FJM - Pure Comedy
Kamasi Washington - The Epic
Joanna Newsom - Have One On Me
Flying Lotus - You're Dead
Vampire Weekend - Modern Vampires Of The City
Micah P Hinson - And The Nothing
The Wave Pictures - Long Black Cars

Top 10 albums of the 2010’s! 🥁🏆⭐💎🔥

1. KENDRICK LAMAR - TO PIMP A BUTTERFLY

My top 10 list is everything! It’s not about whether any of these albums have aged well or not. These albums are all simply unique, abstract yet accessible, innovative, conceptual and all have subtle quirkinesses in them! 👌
