Ten Favorite Albums of the Decade (2010-2019)

My thoughts exactly. Lemonade was a masterpiece.

Also, no SK.
No Cities To Love should have been on the list somewhere. Center Won't Hold I'm actually glad isn't on there

I almost said The Woods but forgot it came out in 2005 lol
Oh for sure No Cities to Love. Definitely not The Center Won't Hold - although it is slowly growing on me.

But there aren't a lot of people around that would say they aren't an extremely important band. And NCTL was a really good album!
100% NCTL should be on there

I’d agree with that description of it entirely. I understand what you mean about For Emma, I just think it’s beautiful and that beauty draws me in. The new one could pass it for me with more listens though, it’s really growing on me!
For Emma has a more organic sound that is all.

About the Pitchfork list:

Frank Ocean at number one is great to see. You could easily make the argument TPAB is better, but I honestly find myself listening to Blonde more than it. Also I still listen to GKMC the most out of Kendrick's albums. It was my first and still my favorite, so I think it should be higher. I mean it would rank higher on my list.

Joanna Newsom Have One On Me is so perfect it deserves at the very least top 10.

I don't mind Modern Vampires in the top 10. It's another personal favorite of mine, but I could see why people wouldn't think of it so highly. I just have some big personal connections to it/memories associated with it that I still come back to it regularly.

I still don't think Carrie & Lowell is that great. Age Of Adz should have been somewhere on this list. Carrie & Lowell wouldn't even make the top 100 of my own list I don't think, and I love Sufjan.

It's hilarious and weird and baffling that they put Big Thief's U.F.O.F. on here and not either of their first two albums - and up so damn high. It's easily my least favorite of the three. I still like it. But I don't know...best of the decade? Nah.

Also I love Burn Your Fire...but My Woman is clearly the best Angel Olsen album and needs to be on this list somewhere.

How...is Lana Del Rey's newest album so high up?

So I do think Some Rap Songs will go down as being some sort of incredible project, but I still find myself preferring I Don't Like Shit. I haven't listened to SRS as much though. I could see it really hitting it with me the more I listen. For a short album, it's so goddamn dense.

My list would certainly have Joanna Newsom - Have One On Me at number 1. I'll stand by that.

Also the most recent album I'd put into my top 10 is Hop Along's Bark Your Head Off, Dog from last year. I still think that's their best album, and still one of my favorite albums period.

pfork is all about the HOT TAKES these days

bowie's final album not being in the top handful of aotd is laughable
That's what it is! I was gonna say they were taking the contrarian view, but that isn't it. They definitely went with the "we're going to pick the albums you didn't think we would pick because we're hipsters" approach. Or, simply put - hot take.

That Pitchfork list is interesting. Lots of stuff that they initially failed to give BNM in the 200-100 range.

Most everything in the top 20 is justified even if a lot of it isn't necessarily my jam.

Personally think it's too early in 2019 to be cementing / dropping this list. See the fact that they just gave Angel Olsen an 8.9 and yet it's not on there.

Also, Freetown Sound not being on the list while Cupid Deluxe is might be the worst thing about that entire list... well that, or Malibu being completely ommited.

Take both of those albums over Beyonce's generic pop anyday even if I understand her cultural impact dwarfs the other 2.

Is a decade any period of 10 years? I've been surprised by the litany of "decade" lists I've seen recently.

If u count up from 2010 it'll be 10 years, which is a decade.

1. 2010
2. 2011
3. 2012
4. 2013
5. 2014
6. 2015
7. 2016
8. 2017
9. 2018
10. 2019

It's just that if u look at it mathematically ur brain will want to add 10 to 2010 and make it 2020.
There is no year zero, so you know, you can’t have decades work that way, but again people get 9 happy.

Years in general don't exist because time as we know it is a manmade concept.
Makes way more sense and looks better if decades include years where the 2nd to last number is the same. If it bothers you, pretend that we corrected it once we got to 1000.
It doesn’t bother me. It’s just the way math works. People can do whatever they want with “constructs”.
