Pinkerton is the Weezer album I think of as being critically dismissed and initially labeled a “bomb” initially upon its release only later to become a beloved cult hit amongst the Weezer faithful.

Though I guess there were probably a few folks with unfairly high expectations for this album too.

I don't remember the reviews being that bad for Pinkerton back then but, then again, I didn't really follow the music press in those days.
Even now, I tend to read reviews only after listening to an album.
