June 2020 Record Challenge Thread (The RAFFLE continues!)

Day 3 - Childhood
Aretha Franklin - I Never Loved A Man The Way I Loved You

I'm not great at remembering a ton of details from when I was little, but I did have a California Raisins tape I used to play a lot. It included the song Respect. I also loved the Blues Brothers movie (still do) as I mentioned in the last challenge thread and Aretha was great in it (although, that would be Aretha Now).

Tuesday (02) – Etchings, instead of showing off that vinyl that’s spinning, show off your favorite vinyl that has an etching on it

So ..etchings ..mixed feelings ...as a way of making up side 4 of a double album that only had enough tracks for three sides ..ok..Neil Young Harvest Moon comes to mind...

BUT..I’d rather have more music tbh ...and I’m calling out my post as an absolutely blatant milking of a fan base ..us Oasis completists are being swizzled by you Mr L Gallagher ..even Noel gives us dodgy remixes on pretty coloured vinyl ..but you ..5 singles , no b sides and all etchings of circular lyrics ....shame on you ..so bad I can’t even be bothered to take a decent picture

Liam Gallagher “various singles”

Damn, that picture was really hard to take.
I love Lamb, and "SH09 is back" is one of their best songs. Unfortunately, it wasn't included on their 2014 album, so they put it in this RSD release. It's the only etching on color vinyl I have and it looks really cool on real life (not so much on my awful pictures)

I love Lamb, too! Such a fantastic, underrated band. Lou's voice just makes me melt, and Gorecki is one of the sexiest songs ever.

Wednesday (03) – Childhood: Your first encounter with music.

So as a child of the 70’s there was lots of good music floating around our house as a kid..in the May thread I posted one of my Dads albums , and this is one of my moms ..a towering achievement in any decade and this is Moms copy ..to be fair ..her taste in music was spot on in , and still is , even at 70. Cream , Beatles , Rod and Elton . Booze, fags , bikes and Hi Fi ..what more can a childhood ask for....

I wish all albums were packaged as well as this , lyric book, scrap book, poster and translucent vinyl ..it’s a proper concept album start to finish and has the added bonus of songs you can sing along to and no long solos

Elton John “Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy” 1975

Wednesday – Childhood: Your first encounter with music.

Queen - Greatest Hits (EMI, 1991 First UK Pressing & Балкантон First West Germany Pressing)

Im not entirely sure what my first encounter with music was, but Queen certainly seems to be the soundtrack to my childhood. Both my parents and grandparents had the complete greatest hits of Queen (volumes 1 & 2) on cd (I still remember the silver packaging and tracklisting) and it would get played in the car CONSTANTLY. Its one of the great things about music that rehearing a certain song can bring back vivid memories, and this album certainly does that for me. I bought the West Germany pressing in Berlin in 2016 at the fantastic Platten Pedro Records

Stevie Wonder - The Original Musiquarium I

The very first 45 I bought with my own money was Stevie Wonder’s “Master Blaster (Jammin’)” Sadly that record is long gone but I can still hear that amazing tune on this well worn hits album.

Day 3 - Childhood: Your first encounter with music.

Shania Twain - Come On Over

My parents are both music lovers and they definitely exposed me to a lot of different kinds of music when I was young, but the farthest back I can remember mostly entailed my mom listening to country music radio. I don't own a bunch of coutry on vinyl, but this is a fantastic album and I remember listening to this type of pop country a ton in my elementary school years and younger.

Wednesday (03) – Childhood: Your first encounter with music.

I remember my parents listening to Barry Manilow, Ray Conniff, Charles Aznavour. I don't have any of those.
So my pick is my first vinyl moment so to speak.
The first time I picked up an album to play.
It was solely based on the cover art and I was probably 12. It was my uncle's copy and it was laying around at my Grandma's house.
Not surprisingly I was blown away.

Pink Floyd - Wish you were here

The Electronic Company

There wasn't much music in my house when I was a kid, I do remember the "oldies" station in the car but I don't really have any of those records... This is something from my childhood and it SLAPS! Easy Reader is the joint!
