Fresh Grabs

this one's going to @Joe Mac! I found it for a crazy good price and knew he was lookin for it so bought it and asked questions later haha.

Let me know which other MoFis you're missing...
This is why I love this community. :D Still chasing down With The Beatles, Hard Day's Night, and Yellow Submarine. Going after the standalones with the proper covers though. Budget is the primary limitation right now. I've been a psycho the past 2 months.

If you come across any in your travels definitely ping me. Appreciate ya.

i just got Yellow Submarine broken out from the box as well from the same seller. but i'm keeping that one haha. Will see if they have any others left. I have a mix of box breakouts and the standalone ones. I think I'm down to just wanting the white album mofi but i'm not collecting them all.

My collecting OCD is bad. Thankfully I am running out of space for more records. I've pretty much just been big game hunting for grails at this point.

This one? :D Found a sealed copy a couple weeks ago.

I was going for the proper covers as well. I’ve actually got it for the other 12. I just couldn’t over the last two years rationalise €500 for a record. Maybe one day in the far distant future I’ll happen across one. Very greatful for Mike setting me up with this one.

A hard days night should be achievable. Yellow Submarine is probably the second most expensive after With The Beatles, or at least it was when I bought it!

well now maybe you can buy a cheaper version with a scratched up vinyl but nice sleeve in the future and still end up on top haha.

I had also at various points over the last couple of years very strongly considered selling the mofis and hunting Japanese stereo pressings!
The Mofi's are just for the collector in me. I don't think they sound nearly as bad as they are made out to be and I do enjoy them. If you are after great sounding play copies of the Stereo versions, do yourself a huge favor and go track down a Dutch or UK BC13 box.

I snagged a near mint Dutch set recently for less than that Mofi With the Beatles. They are just as silent as the JVC super vinyl and are my go to's for Stereo.

I didn’t need to know this 👀

Got a little bit silly with the big Apocalypse Vinyl sale...

My first albums from Yo La Tengo and Sonic Youth (though I did pick up the live one last month); I also got my first Pavement earlier this month (N&G AotM Vol. 44 - Wowee Zowee) - perhaps there's still hope for being one of the cool kids!
Haha! That's awesome. I haven't yet received most of what I ordered from them (3 separate orders!), and I'm assuming it's because some of the titles were pre-orders that haven't been released yet. That would make sense given their flat-rate shipping model.

Yeah anything with pre-orders waits to ship when the pre-order releases. I learned that the hard way when Apocalypse was still Vinyl For Less, so I made sure to separate catalogue and pre-orders this time.

Nice haul! Now, all you need now is some Guided By Voices and you will have the 90s Indie Rock starter pack completed.

Fun Fact: Pavement’s bassist Mark Ibold played on that SY live album.

Oh man, between Sun Ra, King Gizz and Zappa I'm pretty set for outrageously deep catalogues. GBV may be the straw that breaks the camel's back, or drafts up the divorce papers! 🫣

20+? So you just started collecting GBV with their albums since 2020?
Bro I haven’t even made it past 2005 yet.

Funny story, I was digging through the “Recent Arrivals” at my local about a week ago and they had an original pressing of Isolation Drills marked for under $20. I asked him about it since prior to the recent reissue it was going for well above that, he said that price must’ve come since the reissue. I went back in yesterday and dug through the recent arrival stack again and Isolation Drills was still there but now it was marked up to $45.

I guess the price hadn’t come down that much after all.

A bunch of stuff from the last three weeks....

First off, the rest of that order from Juno that was split into a couple packages. Harvey Sutherland "Boy" (2022, Japanese pressing), Depeche Mode "Sounds Of The Universe", ELO "Time" and Michael Kiwanuka "Love & Hate". Every pressing on here is excellent. Especially happy about the Harvey Sutherland. Love this record but couldn't find a good pressing. I returned the standard pressings I've had because of scribble scratches. But then Juno had a copy of the Japanese and it's fabulous. Excellent electronic funk record if you're not familiar, with a collab with Dam-Funk and a sound that reminds me of Todd Terje at times. I'm continuing my dive into DM, now with deeper cuts. The ELO 2016 reissue is excellent and I'm pleased with the Kiwanuka - considering the bad pressing reviews on this one, mine is quite good, probably because this is a more recent re-press.

Now for a couple original Canadian pressings. Bought this for the Living Colour but the real gem is the cheap throw-in. That Billy Idol is just about audiophile quality. But, the Living Colour pressing is very disappointing. Flat and lifeless sound. Not to mention the massive mis-grading by the seller (a MN- record filled with scuffs and plays back with tons of pops throughout, yeah right).

I also got these used Sabbaths, from the Rhino Chris Bellman 2011 pressing run, which are supposed to be all-analogue . They're both really nice with tip-on jackets like the originals. Interestingly, I also have an original Canadian pressing of Vol 4 to compare to. The 2011 CB is really similar - maybe a bit more open on the high end but this is a YMMV situation, I think I prefer the softness of the original Canadian for this record. Plus, these 2011's are pressed at Rainbo, so there's that. This Vol. 4 is noisier than the original pressing and, as weird as it may sound for a Sabbath record, you want quiet for Vol. 4 because there are lots of dynamics and quiet parts. The SBS 2011 is flawless and for sure my final copy of this record.

Next up are the Morphine reissues. I haven't played these yet, but the needle drops seem very promissing.

And lastly, a bunch of recent stuff obtained individually. The Mountain Goats is based on @Hemotep playing it in the vinyl challenge thread. The Gabriels is the 2xLP 33rpm limited version, which I posted in the "really nice sounding pressings thread". There's also the latest Nation of Language (just received this morning, not played) and the latest Alan Palomo (Neon Indian), which is tons of fun and a very good pressing.
