Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

didn't even know they made tonearms that long haha. that stuck out to me too. but it did grab your attention!
Given the amount of snake oil out there, I imagine for the right price you could have all kinds of crazy shit done to/for a turntable.

also @Tyr i think this mirror above the TT idea is super cool:

One of those audiophile mirrors where you can see musical notes vape up from the PVC.

I would probably have the sun hit it at just the right angle to burn a hole in a UHQR or something.

Wife: honey your record is on fire

Me: yeah it sounds damn good eh?

Wife: no dumbass, there something smoking on your precious turntable!

I lead a no-frills vinyl life with a needed small footprint, as evidenced by how I’ve just listened to records on a nice pair of Sennheiser headphones for years, so I’m thinking of getting a full Andover Spinbase setup with the Spinbase MAX and the subwoofer and the turntable stand they make for them. Reviews look fine/OK both on here and online.

Also with a tonearm that long, I feel like you should be required to have some ridiculously large cart to complete the cartoon effect.
For some reason, my 8.75” tonearm now feels so … inadequate.

Extra long tonearms, ceiling mirrors, SPU cartridges - are we sure this isn’t the speakerporn thread? 😂

Here’s a fun little exercise:

If you had $25k-$30k to build a system from the ground up, what would you buy?
The caveat is that the system would be used for both digital and analog listening with an emphasis on vinyl. The system would also be in a medium sized retail space with a 50-60 person capacity. What would you do?

I’m sitting here writing a business plan for my 5 year plan. @HiFi Guy helped me build my personal system years ago and when I finally get to the point where I’m actually launching this business I’m going to try and convince them to come out and do a paid consulting gig to help me build out the system for the space. But in the meantime I thought it would be fun to see what everyone used the money for :)
I don’t have recommendations for everything, but I’d definitely buy a Technics 1200GR2. As far as a cartridge, I’d get something with a replaceable stylus- maybe a Nagaoka MP500 or maybe a Grado Gold3. Have a backup stylus on hand- accidents happen.

This is perfect for me. All I need to listen to records at decent sound quality in one 15”x25” stand (Andover subwoofer comes next week). I can stay in Los Angeles where I’ll never afford enough bedrooms to dedicate one to a full audiophile system and not sacrifice too much sound quality!!! My vinyl future is secured!!! 😃

Would someone give me some good ideas for an intro turntable system for my soon to be 14 year old daughter? She wanted to get a record player for her birthday. I don't want something crummy like a Victrola. I was thinking something that could run audio to some powered speakers. Bluetooth would be nice so she could also stream Spotify to them. I also have a Topping headphones amp that can also power a set of speakers. I was thinking an Audio Technica turntable. There are some options on Amazon that look decent. Just wanted to see if others had some good options. I have some options in my area but given it's Record Store Day tomorrow, I'd rather stay away from them.

I think it’s hard to beat the audio technicas as a step up from an awful built in/suitacase thing whilst not spending too much on someone young just beginning to experiment with the format.

The AT turntables are great options to start, for sure. I don't know much about the differences between the models, but I'd just try to find the best deal on them. You could swap out the VM95C/VM95E stylus that comes on these for a more advanced profile (e.g. VM95ML) down the road too.

With respect to speakers and amps, scope out the used market or facebook or even some hi-fi stores nearby. You might be able to score some pretty good gets that would suffice at this stage.

There are some pretty good "entry level" bargains on speakers out there right now (Wharfedale Diamond 225, Wharfedale Denton 80, PSB Alpha series, JBL Studio and HDI series, etc). I don't have much familiarity with powered speakers but that might be a route worth considering as well.

depending on budget, might be worth going for a fluance. i've heard good things about the monoprice TT as well but a friend got it and it seemed the tonearm cables were too tight and causing the tonearm to drift backwards.

Any of the AT that have BT in the model Number will have Bluetooth capabilities.

Pretty looking thing but this price feels obsceneeeee. Do we think this is a highway robbery product? The plinth is made of glass, not even acrylic. The sound dampening must feel non-existent on this thing. Also I'm actually laughing at the dust cover, what the hell
