August 2020 Challenge Thread - The Dog Days of Vinyl Playing

August 16 - Leo - Play an album that is loud and demands to be the center of attention.

This isn't exactly the usual Sunday morning with a coffee listen but who doesn't love some woman-led poppy punk loudness in their lives? They are generally known for their Christmas covers but the The Dollyrots - Whiplash Splash was a very fun one to break outta the record cubes.

August 14 - Fortnight - Play a long album.

Django Reinhardt - Django (Affinity, 1987 8LP Box Set with Book)

Not technically an album, but this 8-lp set of Django Reinhardt has been the focus of todays vinyl spins. It's a fantastic set with a lot of killer guitar work.

August 15 - The Day the Panama Canal Opened - Play an album that makes you think of water.

Bill Evans - Jim Hall ‎– Undercurrent (Mobile Fidelity, 2013 Blue Note/MOFI pressing)

This was a fantastic N&G Secret Santa gift from @LeeVing and seems to fit today's (yesterdays) challenge perfectly!

Black Sabbath - Paranoid (Warner Bros, 2015 VMP AOTM Coloured Pressing)

There's so many options for today's challenge, but I was in the mood for some heavy, headbanging Sabbath! Killer album and a killer pressing!

August 14 - Fortnight - Play a long album. (make-up)

DJ Shadow - Our Pathetic Age

The last couple of albums he's put out show Shadow settling into a nice groove in this stage of his career, testing some new sounds and keeping it enjoyable. This one's a true double album, with 4 full sides. The first disc is instrumentals, and the second is all collaborations with rappers and singers. His best work? No. But I enjoy it. (Also, it's pretty sad that our age has gotten even more pathetic since this came out late last year...)

Bask - American Hollow

These guys have put out 3 album of excellent music that blends Southern rock, psychedelic, sludge metal, and Americana in a way that is all their own. Their debut shows how, from the beginning, they have deserved to have their music played, and to played LOUD.
