1st Annual N&G 31 Days of Halloween (2019)

47 - Day of the Dead (1985) πŸ’€ πŸ’€ πŸ’€ πŸ’€

The last "good" movie of the franchise, this one isn't quite as good as the first 2, but has grown on me over the years. This one does have my favorite soundtrack of the bunch.

48 - Halloween III: Season Of The Witch (1982) πŸ’€ πŸ’€ πŸ’€ πŸ’€

This movie gets a lot of hate for not being a "Halloween" movie, but if you forget about that, it really is pretty good. It also has what is probably my favorite Carpenter score.

Next year I'll do my best to not start early.

I finished off Halloween night with John Carpenter’s In the Mouth of Madness. I’ve seen this quite a few times but my roommate and our friend had not. Did they love the movie? I don’t think so, but they had fun watching it. Look, it’s not a great movie, but it’s definitely worth watching. Some nice Lovecraft vibes along with Sam Neill reminding us that he can be just as over the top as Nick Cage. Add in random heavy metal music that isn’t Enter Sandman but sounds enough like it that you wonder if Metallica sued anyone over it. πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€(jk.. more like 3 1/2)

It's been so long since I've seen that one that I don't remember much about it.

I know that Shout Factory released a special edition on blu ray somewhat recently, so I may pick that up if I see it cheap.

I kind of gave up on Carpenter around this time...the movie he made before this was that Chevy Chase Memoirs of an Invisible Man - ugh...that was bad...but post-They Live wasn't all that great for Carpenter.
  • Memoirs of an Invisible Man (1992)
  • In the Mouth of Madness (1994)
  • Village of the Damned (1995)
  • Escape from L.A. (1996)
  • Vampires (1998)
  • Ghosts of Mars (2001)

I forgot he made that! Also I enjoyed Escape from LA and Vampires when they came out, but they are definitely bad. I had always thought he should have done Escape from Earth or something like that, so I was surprised to learn that Ghosts of Mars was originally supposed to be a Snake Plissken movie, but nobody thought it would sell. 😒

just checked to see what other films of his I missed. I didn't know he made Christine. It looks like the only movies of his I haven't seen are Starman, Dark Star, and the Ward

25 Halloween (1978)
πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€
omg this movie made me so sick as a kid. I love Halloween and the idea of a masked killer taking out teens freaked me the fuck out, lol. Still awesome after all these years.

I did finish out this challenge, just got too busy to write it all out. But I’ll try to do that tonight.

10/26
26 The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€
Kids put this on and I love it so much and have done so since it came out. The combo of Chris Sarandon and Danny Elfman as Jack is perfection.

10/28
28 All the Boys Love Mandy Lane (2006)
πŸ’€πŸ’€
Hadn’t seen this before and I’m meh on it. Would’ve been an ok slasher flick if not for all the deep feels which weren’t deep enough so it ended up being weak on both sides.

10/30
30 Room on the Broom (2012)
πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€
Animated cartoon based on the kids book. The kids love it and it’s very cute. Great narration by Simon Pegg and I love that the witch is Gillian Anderson.

10/31
31 Fright Night (1985)
πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€
I was exhausted after trick or treating with the kids but still managed to put this on after the kids went to sleep. Love this movie so much. Chris Sarandon as sexy 80s vampire is the best, the club scene is great, and Roddy McDowall as a little local horror show host enlisted to help vanquish actual vampires is a fun plot point. Special effects are cool, everything about this movie is cool.

β€œOh you’re so cool, Brewster!”

Bumping this thread to let people know the 2nd Annual N&G 31 Days of Halloween is only about 7 weeks away.

We won't start as early as last year...unless people want that. But as close to October 1st is probably best.
