  • Recently had an awesome success with the vinyl flat, the most warped record I’ve successfully completely flattened that wasn’t newly pressed.
I finally pulled the trigger on The Beatles Revolver Deluxe solely for the Mono copy, for $160.

I'm so glad I grabbed that mono repress from 2014 before they went up

When I first started collecting the local fye had a mono box for $500 and I could have snagged it for $400, when I started actively buying records like a degenerate it was still there and I didn’t buy it like a fucking idiot. It’s the only significant “regret” I have in my journey.

It’s the worst with The Beatles catalog due to the Capitol records sounding bad and up through revolver the stereo mixes are off putting.
Is Barry McGuire “Eve Of Destruction” an unusually recorded album. I acquired a modern reissue, the vocals sound like the were recorded in a box, it just doesn’t sound right. I have no others to compare to.
Never spend much time in Seattle so my fiancée the dog and I went to four different record stores, found a few records. Jive Time and Sonic Boom I purchased at, silver platters and zions gate I did not. I was not surprised by the lack of used selection but more so that none of them had anything exciting that would be on the “wall”
In Frisco Texas for the week, any must stops other than Josie Records

Thanks for the suggestions, because of the ice storm I didn’t get outside of Frisco until my last day Friday. I went to the big Josey records location, found a few they are shipping them for me.

Went to the new location in Plano I believe, but it was Friday and they had a DJ or band and there were ten times as many people as I have ever seen in a record store so I never went in. Driving was wild, the freeway systems and streets were a lot different then Washington.

Whataburger was surprising, torchys was not very good. The people seemed friendlier at businesses than what I’m used to.
Scored a 33 rpm KOB uhqr sealed from the in groove what not auction for $95, a mofi copy sold for well over $100 in the same auction lol.

i misread this at first and thought rpm KOB uhqr is a weird name for a videogame and also how hard is it to get a point?
The Grateful Dead -American Beauty sounds bad on my magnepans, there are many albums where the “quality of the recording” are made apparent but these speakers but also with my elacs. The American Beauty is the first one to surprise me.

@wmeugene I had assumed that this was the case and that it was an internal issue so to speak and wasn’t the recording. Thanks for the confirmation this is why I love everyone here so much and can vent and then move on and find an answer or assistance.

I could see that, American Beauty does have a lot more harmony (they were inspired by Crosby Stills and Nash) and separated instrumentation, so placement could definitely make it sound weird

Honestly would have bet that wasn't possible.
I have officially lived in my apartment for one year, and with my fiancée since June. It actually feels like a home now. What a difference a year makes.

It’s way easier to be a good person when you aren’t being psychologically abused to some degree on a daily basis, go figure lol.

Thanks everyone, I consider the people I interact with here as friends and this is where I come most often for none audio advice or to vent. It means a lot that you are all here. Thank you.
Anyone have the klh model five? I was wondering how stable they are on their stands for dog safety reasons.

I’ve got my Fortes on very similar stands and haven’t had any concerns, though my dog isn’t exactly a wrecking ball.

Thank you for the input @kvetcha, I’m more concerned with our 35 pound Boston Terrier bumping them and having them squish her like my elacs seem to be prone to. Probably just stick with the LRS though for now.
Just spun a Colemine record all the way through listening at 45 rpm the whole time by mistake.
Am I the only one who “aligns” a cartridge only to finish feeling like regardless it will not be aligned and even if it was I wouldn’t notice either way when listening. I feel like I think I know what I’m doing but in reality I have no clue.

I align the front of the cartridge body to the grid when the stylus is “on the target” and that’s it because if you’re supposed to do something else other than that good luck.

I think people paint it out as being some silly, ridiculously complicated task when it just isn’t. So when you do it and it’s not that hard there’s a feeling afterward of “huh.” But you’ll know if it’s out of whack. And if it is, you fix it. No big thing.

I’m glad someone confirmed this sentiment. Now to be fair I’m aligning my $350 cart on my $600 table with a Hudson hi fi protractor and a scale.I’m sure when you have added levels of adjustment, digital microscopes, various test discs and electronics to measure with, “aligning” and setup is more complicated and time consuming. As Rust Cohle stated “this ain’t that”
The Magnepan LRS saga continues albeit put on hold for nearly a year, after a close call with our dog I realized I could no longer utilize my Elac floorstanders due to potential falling hazard, so I broke out the LRS. After some experimentation I found I never had them far enough apart from each other, they are by no means ideally setup but they are well enough to enjoy them.
I really dig these William Onyeabor reissues.
First time ordering a VMP record on Discogs, couldn’t live without the honky tonk heroes reissue.

I might have to do the same.

It’s so good I have two original orange label pressings, they sound good but that’s meaningless when I’ve heard two copies. It’s one of my favorite albums, it’s the first time it’s been properly reissued I believe, the only knock is gz for some, they usually do alright with black vinyl, colored vinyl is often noisy. It will be go for over $100 12 months after it is out of print.
