Vinyl Me Please Rap & Hip Hop

After the drop of the clue #3 everyone over on Reddit seems to think it’ll be The Roots. I am curious why Big Boi can’t be the solo artist and then a groups be Essentials & Classics? I feel like Essentials could still be any number of things based off the fact that it a “Crate Digger” psych rock pick from 1969. I have heard UFO tossed around a bit but prior to that everyone was sure it was Top Drawer (until Storf nixed it). I guess I just assume Essentials isn’t as big of a lock as others do.

But I wanna be riiiiight 😭

I'm gonna assume that Jim Sullivan for Essentials is the solo act. But at this point, who knows? The Roots seems like a solid R&HH guess.

My point is do we have any more clues to suggest it is going to be Jim Sullivan than the fact that it fits all the clues? Surely they are many other psych rock private press releases from 1969, right? Did I miss a clue?

Well, here's the evidence I gave in my first post where I proposed the guess:

*1969
*Psychedelic rock, but not explicitly. Has influences of folk and country as well
*Label has only one release (in Discogs)
*Previously reissued by Light In The Attic, but never on colored vinyl
*Judging by the Have/Want ratio, very much obscure/cratediggerish
*The last cratedigger Essentials was also "found on Discogs" ;)

Remember that Light In The Attic had reissued Betty Davis prior to it being an ROTM.

It's not a definite, no. But no one else has proposed a guess that fits all of the clues.

Thank you, I didn’t realize they had was confirmed to be a LITA reissue. That certainly narrows the scope a great deal.

Storf almost always gives clues in the order of Essentials, Classics, RHH. The solo artist is gonna be Essentials.

So The Roots it is, I guess. That’s... good I suppose. Still, I really wanted that Curren$y... 😕

And I wanted Big Boi. Yet the N&G AOTM has always delivered the best album. Funny isn’t it

I already have The Roots’ How I Got Over. I love that album.......but was hoping it would be Big Boi’s Sir Lucious because I don’t have it on vinyl yet. I’m looking forward to seeing what they will do with this album to make it extra special!

If it’s The Roots, that means that this will be three month in a row for R&HH that VMP have pressed an album that was already so easy to purchase brand new for a cheap price........

They didn't confirm it. It just seems likely they'd go back to a label that they've worked with before.
Ah, okay. Sorry, I misunderstood. Well, I was about 90% sure it was going to be Big Boi. Now I am probably a 60/40 split Big Boi/The Roots. If it is The Roots it’s going to be interesting how they push the hype on this one. Seems like about everything they say will have to be even more hyperbolic than normal to sell this Roots album.

It's weird, it's like they are paying for the extra quality and care they are putting into Classics by going cheaper on RHH.

That’s how I kind of feel. They are running out of R&HH picks! I do have a strong feeling from October, we will get amazing R&HH picks because the last few months have been pretty disappointing. Hoping VMP have still been in contact with Tommy Boy Records and that we get a spectacular album like “A Prince Among Thieves” by Prince Paul. We need a R&HH pick like that! Or we need an amazing recent album that hasn’t been released on vinyl yet like JID’s DiCaprio 2, Noname’s Room 25 or Megan Thee Stallion’s Fever!

Unfortunately it’s looking like The Roots...

yeah its the roots

it seems like the "safe" choice for VMP, like... its a roots album, which is a very very safe band to do, and its their most "indie" focused album (joanna newsom is on the album for gods sake).. its basically VMP bait the same way tennis was VMP bait
