I'm not making a good pace to match or beat last year's pace, having watched a whopping ZERO movies so far! But I have read a bunch of horror COMICS this month:

• American Vampire vols. 1-9 by Scott Snyder & Rafael Albuquerque
• We Have Demons by Scott Snyder & Greg Capullo
•  Nocterra vols. 1-2 by Scott Snyder & Tony S. Daniel
• Night of the Ghoul by Scott Snyder & Francesco Francavilla
• Little Monsters vol. 2 by Jeff Lemire & Dustin Nguyen
• Swamp Thing: Green Hell by Jeff Lemire & Doug Mahnke
• The Closet by James Tynion IV & Gavin Fullerton

Nocterra should be , but was fun enough that I would give it

We Have Demons, Swamp Thing: Green Hell, and Little Monsters all fell in the - range

American Vampire would be a - overall ( at its lowest points and fully at times!)

Night of the Ghoul would be a - absolutely TOP NOTCH!

Just when I thought I was out... they pull me back in!

Seriously, I haven't been doing the spin challenge, and I LOVE Halloween. Going to make an effort!!!

Shocking Dark (a.k.a. Terminator II, Terminator 2, Aliens 2, Aliennators, or Contaminator) added to a spate of egregious Alien ripoffs in the 80's (think The Terror Within, Creature, Contamination). This one manages to stand out among that crowd by ripping off specifically Aliens as and Terminator at the same time. Despite not being good, it's surprisingly entertaining. It's written in part by Claudio Fragasso (Troll 2) so....

I found things in each rendition that I liked better than in the other, but I think Manhunter is my preferred take, primarily because of Tom Noonan's absolutely unhinged Tooth Fairy.

I love Manhunter so much that I can't watch Red Dragon again. Mann did such a great job with it...and everyone was great - Noonan, Allen, Petersen, Farina, Cox, Lang.

It also has one of my favorite soundtracks.

7. Possessor
Thought this was excellent. The idea behind it and the execution works really well. It may be a bit more along the lines of a psychological thriller vs a horror but by the end, I could see it.

I watched this last night. Funny that I didn't realize before hand who directed it, but about halfway through guessed correctly. He's got a vibe.

I've fallen off posting, but have still been watching. I'll start posting again today with the new month. But last week I watched the first three Final Destination movies for some nostalgia.

I watched this last night. Funny that I didn't realize before hand who directed it, but about halfway through guessed correctly. He's got a vibe.

Yeah he really likes that slanted / upside down far shot. And Psychedelic dream sequences (at least from the 2 movies I've seen from him: this and infinity pool). Not criticizing, just something I noticed when watching. I'm planning to check out Antiviral too.

9. Scary Movie
I remember liking this way back when. I remember it being pretty crude but its even more lowbrow than I remember. Jokes hasn't aged that well but it's still a decent fun watch especially if you watched all the horror movies it references.

Saw this in theaters way back when. The audience was so fun, still remember it to this day.

I remember liking Scary Movie 2 but that one somehow manages to be even more lowbrow.

I'm all here for the Cronenberg cinematic dynasty. Caitlin Cronenberg's feature debut Humane is in post right now! (Enjoyed her two short films so far.)

I recently filled the final gaps in my Daddy Cronenberg filmography (early TV movies and two shorts aside). While there's definitely a strong connection between David and Brandon's output, it's fun to analyze the generational differences in themes and depiction between the two. I loved Possessor and Infinity Pool, and Antiviral is really fun and gross too! (Its the most visceral of the three, very bodily in its horror.)

My brother-in-law and I did a double header and saw Scary Movie and The Cell in Denver one day while my sister was working. We filled our flasks with Jack and got hammed during Scary Movie. I remember the whole theater rolling laughing. Then The Cell was such a change of pace but amazing too. Great day at the movies.

I might’ve told this before, but someone brought an actual baby to our viewing.

It was one of the late weekend showings as well. The baby started crying at one point and someone yelled “somebody better get that mothafucka outta here”, very similar to the movie’s own movie theater scene. Hilarity ensued, audience exploded.

Doubled up on my challenges for the start of the Horror Queers podcast Spooky Season theme of the day with an Italian selection from my HoopTober list.

I needed a Mario Bava movie for HoopTober, so I chose The Girl Who Knew Too Much—often credited as the film that originated the giallo sub-genre. However, the cut I had access to is called Evil Eye, a recut released in the UK and the US with some extra comedic scenes and a rescore.

It's a fun little crime thriller with pulp fiction-loving American in Italy. The black and white photography is absolutely stunning.

Followed things up with my LGBTQ+ selection for HoopTober: Troma's Terror Firmer.

Absolutely bonkers, intentionally appalling, and weirdly respectable all at once. A chaotic, meta movie that demonstrates Troma's staunch filmmaking ethos (yes, it exists—see Lloyd Kaufman's discussion on set safety in the Cursed Films episode on Twilight Zone: The Movie.)

A serial killer is on the loose, and the only people who can help are a Troma film crew.

Went through a big Troma phase a couple decades back, but never saw this one. I should remedy that!
