Let's hope the Black Friday sale is as amazing as it was last year! Even though I didn't go crazy with it as I had so much of the exclusives I wanted, I really appreciated the fact that VMP gave you the money difference for exclusives on sale (if they were purchased within the last 30 days). That was so generous of VMP! Remember that @Skalap !?!?
I definitely think Loretta Lynn and Unlimited Experience will be on sale! I have a feeling them two Essential ROTM's will take long time to sell out!

You’re not so loyal to VMP when The Shaggs is on the table Nathan. All your #teamnoswap affiliation goes out the window. And you have an open mind towards new music. The social media backlash would be something to behold.

The more I think about it, the more I absolutely fucking love the idea of The goddamn Shaggs being picked as ROTM. Even though a lot of us here don’t find the music particularly enjoyable (for great reason!), at least most of us understand a little bit of the context of the album, how it’s gained a semi-ironic cult following on the internet, and the possibly facetious citings of it as an influence on Cobain and Zappa. But we’re the minority here - VMP have said before that the vast majority of members don’t ever swap a ROTM, so I’d imagine there’s a significant portion of the club membership that isn’t really in tune with deep musical history and just throw their monthly record on the turntable to see what it’s about for the first time. And the idea that Philosophy Of The World could imminently be arriving on the doorsteps of tens of thousands of unsuspecting Phoenix and Sleater Kinney fans... what a glorious shitstorm that would be.
I really don’t believe it’ll be the ROTM for what it’s worth. I’m not sure it’s the type of shitstorm VMP wants right now. But it would fit in suspiciously well with VMP’s recent modus operandi of “going out of our way to piss of our consumer base and giving a giant middle finger to customers”. To appropriate an old metaphor from Storf, it would really drive home the point of VMP turning full heel

Exactly what I think about Skalap. He's so transparent and friendly and kind but so smart and really tells you what he thinks! I love Skalap!!!

VMP may as well make pornstar Farrah Abraham's "My Teenage Dream Ended" an Essentials ROTM as it also has a strong cult following like The Shaggs' "Philosophy of the World". My Teenage Dream Ended is an easily misunderstood album and the album in recent years has been viewed as a masterpiece and ahead of its time. But, this Farrah Abraham album would be so unbearable for most VMP subscribers to listen to. That's how I feel about The Shaggs. I know the ROTM won't be The Shaggs but I just want to further express my feelings because I'm a child

I've heard that song more this summer than I have in the last decade. I bought a pass to the theme park near me and it's one of the 10 songs they play on a loop. I find the anger over the even the possibility that the Shaggs could be ROTM quite funny. VMP likes to be perceived as "edgy" which means putting out Loretta Lynn records every so often, not take a crap in a envelop and mail it to people. Putting the Shaggs out would really hurt the brand. My guess it will be a bog-standard, run of the mill lost album, with a couple of good songs and another 8 that leave no trace in the memory once you put the album back in the sleeve.
Oh we have plenty of hyperbole around “brave” people who do idiotic things too. It’s only ever truly “brave” in my eyes if it’s altruistic...

There is not a chance it will be The Shaggs. It would kill the brand. It would be an actual left field edgy record. 99% of their members would be disgusted. But those wonderful 1% would be pissing themselves with laughter.
I will roll around laughing my face off if VMP falls for Kurt and Frank's trolling by actually choosing this as the AOTM.
