I get the feeling it's leaning towards Top Drawer atm. There's no way VMP would shoot themselves in the foot by releasing The Shaggs as a ROTM.
You just planted the seeds for a Tabakin/Shaggs supergroup!I finally gave in and listened to a couple tracks from The Shaggs. The amount of discussion we’ve already dedicated to this is laughable, and I know that’s true because I’ve been laughing.
If VMP even put it in the store I think they should get sent on tour like Tabakin.
The things that’s funny is that Storf could say 1969 as a clue for essentials, and we still wouldn’t know the right album...
I’ve always said that if this album was released by Crystal Castles it’d be topping lists for best album of 2012. I always laugh when people try to posit Angelic 2 The Core and Philosophy Of The World as misunderstood avant-garde masterpieces, but this twisted ass album is one I could feasibly see an argument forVMP may as well make pornstar Farrah Abraham's "My Teenage Dream Ended" an Essentials ROTM as it also has a strong cult following like The Shaggs' "Philosophy of the World". My Teenage Dream Ended is an easily misunderstood album and the album in recent years has been viewed as a masterpiece and ahead of its time. But, this Farrah Abraham album would be so unbearable for most VMP subscribers to listen to. That's how I feel about The Shaggs. I know the ROTM won't be The Shaggs but I just want to further express my feelings because I'm a child
This album sounds cool and I did sort of like it but once again, I don't feel like I need it in my collectionYeah this Top Drawer album should be something I would be all over but it just doesn’t do it for me. Kind of hope it’s not this.
Im just gonna say it, it’s not essential. This album sounds cool and I did sort of like it but once again, I don't feel like I need it in my collection
I think the "free from conventions" talk is bologna. That's like saying you jumped out of a sky scraper to show you were free from the conventions of gravity... Free indeed! The story of how The Shaggs came to be is all kinds of interesting, and listening to Philosophy of the World in that context adds to the intrigue. It's not good, but there is a fundamental reason why it's not good in that it is totally free from the conventions that music exists within.
That said, I'd be absolutely hard pressed to believe that VMP would do this. A small run exclusive? Sure. RotM? Naw.
It’s more exclusive album material, imo.

Not sure where I sit with Top Drawer. First song is pretty cool, especially when the guitar comes blaring in. But I sort of lost interest a few songs in. Sort of lost that “psychedelic” feel for me.

I honestly don’t even have a desire to stream it again.
Hoping it’s not this as well.
What a miss for the psychedelic rock category.

Oh no the shaggs I definitely don't want lolShaggakin sounds like the Travelling Wilburys of odd.
Another vote for The Shaggs?
And is The Shaggs instead?
Unlike The Shaggs?
Top Drawer bad. Shaggs so bad it nearly touches back to good on the scale.
I want to see the shitstorm that ensues on reddit if the Shaggs is ROTM. it'll be gloriousI want strangers to get the Shaggs more than I want to get it. Considerably more
