Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

I had a Uturn and loved it. Didn’t feel an upgrade was worth it until I got to the Technics 1200-GR level. And if moving up that much had caused any economic heartburn, I wouldn’t have done it. I used money I got from having my foot run over to pay for it so it was only temporary physical pain. Funny story.

then you picked the wrong hobby!
Not if you blindly follow ranking lists of reviewed /s...

But I think I found critics' I mostly agree with on things like iem sound and stuff.. but the analog world is more complicated

I think there’s a certain type of audiophile that would see Klipsch as being fun rather than accurate or analytical.
I fully plan on having a pair of Fortes, the a b ability of the NAD has me considering keeping around an analytical pair of speakers for classical listening. So, yeah, I can kind of see that and almost immediately after typing it I was kind of like, oh yeah, color. Audiophiles are weird.

Source in general is where they seem to wildly vary.

Not outdoor speakers so you can have a soundtrack to you staring down random teenagers who innocently walk past your house…

so i was kinda arguing with someone on the VMP discord about and they basically said when I recommended a Uturn or a schiit product they said that "they make budget parts only so they cant afford the greater parts for cheaper like one owned by a big parent company" and instead recommended moving to a pro-ject or rega turntable and moving to the ifi zen air phono and an openbox zen signature (since they're a bigger company that can afford the higher quality gear for lower prices). i felt kinda bothered by this so I wanted to hear what you recommendations would be for upgrading from my u-turn (which apparently has a budget tonearm not fit for hifi content)
Your “VMP guy” probably knows nothing about manufacturing and retail sales models. The UTurn and Schiit guys produce excellent quality with small batch manufacturing and on-shore supply chains. Objectively, both Uturn and Schiit products compare favorably with units at twice the price in other retail channels.

It should be noted that some of the most highly regarded audio manufacturers produce very limited quantities of their units.

Meh, I don't need it to be audiophile if I'm sitting on the chair threating younguns. I have an adequate bluetooth speaker for that purpose. And with bluos going in sometime this week, I can make that easier in the future too.

Yeah point being @duke86fan, it doesn't matter how "good" or "expensive" or "accepted" your gear may be. There's always going to be someone looking down on it. Don't worry about that shit, just enjoy the music and if there's some part of the sound you'd like to improve, then focus on doing that. More bass, more extension, more detail. Honestly if you've got the u turn I'd be looking more at changing carts or speakers before I was worrying about changing the table in order to improve the sound however you'd like.

I think I already got a good cartridge with an ortofon blue and I don't personally use speakers so I am just enjoying what I want with my headphones and schiit magni... I showed my brother the recent VMP version of new York city cops and he was honestly impressed especially by the bass not being too overpowering but still being apparent

Try telling people you've got a $35K system and when they ask you what speakers, you say "JBL".
I don’t have a $35k system, but same applies to the higher-end Yamaha receiver line. I love mine and got an absolute scremaing deal on it during the pandemic, but some people are judgy as f-k about the “Yamaha sound.”

ONLY CAUSE YOU DON'T HAVE THESE THINGS:

I've been hoping to have my foot run over.
