Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

Yeah, I got a little sideways with Richard and clarified that they literally sold me something they couldn't deliver. He said he's on permanent backorder for these things and that they really should take them off the site. It's not real Lee, where'd you buy yours?

If you don’t need the DIRAC a bluesound node and a coax digital cable will give you identical streaming capabilities using the NADs DAC.

We'll see, just instructed Upscale to ship without the card and ordered one from Crutchfield. I am primarily interested the Dirac but also BT and LAN connectivity. I had missed the point that people landing the fully enabled units were getting the LE model.

Yeah I think the LE being a fancy anniversary edition with the real wood veneer was only available fully kitted out. Being it was such a limited run it’s likely it didn’t fall victim to the card shortages or perhaps even it just wiped out the limited stocks. Who knows. But it does seem that since the standard model launch the cards just don’t seem to exist.

I think for anyone who doesn’t have a need for DIRAC the best bet to get the same blueOS streaming is the node connected to the NADs DAC.

Ordered Lintons and a 3050 C from Upscale. Now they're telling me the BluOS cards are rare as hen's teeth and they can sell me an empty amp only and I can get in a year long line for a card later. I feel like I saw everyone else get BluOS enabled units without these issues. Where should I be looking? What's the issue with Upscale?
Took a long, long look at the 3050. In the end went the Leak 230 route with a Wiim pro. No room correction but looks as much the shit (albeit varying shades of shit).

Room correction would have been nice but real walnut wins… as does an open box discount.

Had I not spent covid endlessly ripping cds I’d have gone with the CDT too. It’s a handsome devil for sure

At my old house room correction was an absolute necessity; I don't know if a more awkward layout could be made. The new space probably won't have such issues but I am so traumatized from the previous one that I feel it's needed regardless.

Lee beat me to the Crutchfield link. Glad you were able to track one down. There is Bluetooth straight out of the box though. The little LED looking thing is actually a touch sensitive button in disguise. I had to read the manual front to back to figure that out.

Looking forward to hearing your opinions on the combo NAD/Lintons. I know I love mine.

When it came down to it I wasn’t sure I had faith in my ability to actually use the Dirac properly either and kinda foresaw years of endless mucking about chasing the right curve. Some people (like me) can’t be trusted with subjectively interpreted adjustment tools. It would have kept me up at night

Yeah, it’s sneaky. I was only using the remote to access it at first, before I got unlazy and put the echo in the aux.

If your room is relatively square, normal sized and not with huge vaulted ceilings honestly you’ll be fine. Also don’t discount the ability of your stuff to tame the room. I’d put money on DIRAC not being able to control echo and the bass responses in the same way as dumping 1200 records into the room did!

Beyond that sitting central to the speakers and getting the toe in just right makes a considerable difference too.

Minor edit.

Tightly packed record shelves are pretty reflective on their own. Bookshelves, on the other hand can work really well as diffusers and rugs on the floor help lively rooms too.

Hey everyone, here again soliciting advice. My current setup is as follows,
Pioneer PLX-1000, AT vm740ml, Vincent PHO-8, Sound Artist Pre-1 (tube preamp), Adcom GFA 545-II, ELAC Debut 2 f5.2.

I’ve had this setup for over two years now and believe the next best step would be speakers. I want something different sounding so this seems logical other than changing cartridges, which seems like it would lead to a new phono stage as well. What are your thoughts ?

If speakers seem like a rational next step I was contemplating the KLH model Five or the Wharfedale Lintons.

The Lintons are really nice speakers. They shine in the mids but have decent bass too. They can come across a bit stiff and mannered to begin with but once they’ve broken in they really do sing.

Looking at the amp you have more than ample power to drive them.

Agreed. I'm glad I gave them some time because on first listen they really were a bit too polite.

The only thing that I’m worried about with the Lintons is how stable they and their stands will be on my rug. I know there is no way to quantify this but I have a Boston terrier and I perpetually worry about her knocking over something that falls on her.

They come with spikes and are so damn heavy that it would take a monumental effort for a small dog to topple them.

They’re heavy (18kg on 17kg stands) so they won’t fall easily and if you store a number of records in the stands they add weight and lower the centre of gravity so there even less chance of moving the stand.

Ok that is extremely valuable input, thank you. Thank you @Joe Mac as well, whether you are aware of it or not you have had significant input on my entire journey starting over five years ago.
