Discogs - Help, Tricks, Secrets And Tips

This smells of Lloyd Star!

That fucker is indestructible.

Not help, trick, etc...but a rant.

I'm looking for a 2001 copy of Michael Jackson Dangerous on CD. I've heard the 2001 RM is really good. Now, I'm pretty sure the newer CDs use the same RM but there is a specific 2001 US edition that came in a slipcase. Not a must-have but if I can find it then why not.

So there are 3 2001 special editions but only one has the slipcase. Ive been looking on Discogs and asking sellers who have it listed under the corresponding version if their copy, in fact, has the slipcase. I've had two message back realizing they had it listed in the wrong version and it did not have the slipcase.

I messaged another seller yesterday. No response...yet, maybe ever. However, I looked today and their price went from $18 to $40 overnight (not a price this album goes for). Coincidence?

I tried looking it up but the discogs wiki stuff can be kinda confusing....i've been trying to add deadwax in for a number of releases. what's the proper way to distinguish between etched and stamped deadwax? For example, I'm looking at a record with the following deadwax:

093624855958-A 261850E1 1655538 BG

the first set of numbers is etched, then the next two are stamped and then BG is etched. And it also has the triangle symbol etched in (it's escaping me now what that symbol means...)

So this triangle is also on Bernie Grundman cut of Otis Redding – Love Man

BG ▽ R1-2895-A 0603497833344 BM85705-01 A1

I have a feeling this is a new apprentice situation - same as the "!" used to be.

it's also on The Doors – Golden Album

I posted a question in the Discogs runout thread to the person that has the BG Mastering contact and got all the Scott Stratton credits figured out - maybe he can get this one figured out, too - or at least let us know if it is a person or what it means (if anything)

Nope. I've seen this many times. And they go on my block seller list

(this is only a feature when using the Discogs Enhancer extension/plug-in - it's not built into vanilla Discogs)

I don't have it set to not see them in the marketplace or subs in case I want to buy something - but it tags them that they are "blocked" - I use it when I see shady shit like that.

Seconding Discogs Enhancer. It makes Discogs slightly less shitty

Question, so I got American Tecordings in.

I think it is this one:

But I have the following matrix:
173772E1/C

Is that just a playing variant of that listing?

Yep. The "C" is just considered a stamper change when it's a GZ pressing.

Got a reply on that triangle meaning...

"some clients want us to use that marking to ensure that our diamond stylus was used on the cut. If a cut doesn't have the upside down triangle it doesn't mean that the diamond stylus wasn't used. We have been exclusively using the diamond stylus for two-ish years now, but we mark it on some of our clients lacquers so it is explicitly known." So, it's a trademark of sorts. Again, big thanks to Chase at BGM for sharing that!!!!

I've really only seen it on BG cuts myself - doing a search for "CB ▽" didn't com up with anything

Nothing like having a seller not communicate at all about your order, having them ship after 4 days, and receiving it the next day to discover their address is 12 minutes across town, but you just paid $24 to have 4 records shipped... only to find that only 3 of the records you ordered in the box upon arrival!

That's bullshit. This happened to me a few months ago, except I was the seller. When I saw how close the buyer was, I contacted him. We met the next day at a coffee shop, he bought a second record from me off book, and we had a nice conversation.

Quickly approaching the first time my auto-cancellation policy will be tested. Even after a 4-day reminder. Not really thinking this guy will mind since his account was created the day before the order. Although he might mind the negative feedback... At the very least he's getting a neutral.

Gotta go negative. Then if he responds with a reason you can always remove it and he can place the order again. My 60 year old uncle joined discogs and did this same thing with his first order. Swears he paid but missed the last step, then of course didn’t go back to the site after the order to check on it.

He explained the situation and got it removed then put the order in again correctly. Maybe the buyer is my uncle? 🤣

Does he live in Arizona too?
