New ultrasonic vinyl cleaner in the works: Humminguru

I recently ran into an issue with my Humminguru and was curious if anyone has experienced something similar.

I've had it since April, and have probably cleaned a few hundred records in that time. The other day, I started an auto cycle and a few seconds in, it stopped. I restarted the cycle and it worked fine. I emailed Humminguru, and they said it was probably the thermal switch being activated, and they added that I shouldn't clean more that 5 records in one sitting (I usually don't).

Yesterday, I went to clean some new purchases and the same thing happened on the very first record. It cleaned for a fraction of a second and then stopped. It seems to me like the thermal switch might be faulty (since it couldn't have been overheating in less that a second, I would think).

Anyone else had this problem?

Yea quite a few people here had this issue and it was a faulty thermal switch. I believe HG walked them through the way to just bypass the switch

I believe at least one or two people earlier in this thread have encountered the issue. You can typically either request a replacement board from Humminguru/Happywell (you're a recent enough owner that this should not be a problem), or just disable the thermal switch entirely. Your unit is new enough that I would request a new board. You can always disable the switch to get things working meanwhile.

Channel 33 RPM on Youtube ran into pretty much the same problem and did a great job documenting the entire experience over two videos where it was finally fully corrected by getting a replacement board like mentioned above. This was actually one of the big reasons outside of everyone here that I ultimately decided to buy it. The customer service seems very competent and willing to do whatever they can to solve issues which is not nearly as common as it should be.

Here's the two videos if you want to check them out.

For an update to my earlier post, Happywell customer support asked me to take a video of the problem. Of course, this resulted in it not happening for the next 10 records that I cleaned.

I'm not too worried, it seems like their customer service is pretty good based on some of the issues discussed in this thread.

Started off a bit worried when I seen the box looking like this on my doorstep. It was directly from Humminguru on Amazon sold as Used but they assured me it was "Like New" and would still have the full 1 year warranty. The unit inside luckily seems good with only some minor surface scratches from what I can tell.

The first record I cleaned was really loud resembling something frying when it's REALLY going on the stove? That's the best way I can describe it haha.. Second and the third record which is finishing up now were a bit more tame with just mostly the ultrasonic, nails on a chalkboard kind of sound with the high pitched squeak as well here and there which seems about normal for this unit after seeing some past comments?

Regardless, i'm going to clean tf out of records over the next year anyways so if there's anything too wrong it should happen well before the Warranty is up. Just kind of crazy a $500 product is shipped like that but looks like I might have lucked out as far as damage is concerned.

On the much brighter side i'm loving the finished product as the first record I listened too clearly had a bit less noise (especially between tracks) then before.. It almost feels too easy like i'm cheating after dealing with the VPI for so many years! :D

I'm looking forward to giving it some tougher tasks soon as i'm just starting with all new records so far. Thanks again for everyone's help in here!

Well damn, it looks like I already ran into an issue.. The left side wheel that turns the vinyl just randomly stopped working after only 30 or so records total. I was doing some looking around in here and it looks like another person dealt with pretty much the same issue after only 50 uses. From the sound of it, it sems to likely be a motor that went out but before I contact them and go through all that I was wondering if anyone else dealt with this issue and was able to fix it without replacing the motor?

@Academy if you don't mind me asking, did you have to also end up changing out the motor to fix the issue?

Is this happening with every record? I think most of us have experienced that sometimes the way an edge of a record is cut will prevent it from spinning in the HumminGuru. There's an easy fix for that. But if you're having the problem consistently, that could be something else I don't remember hearing about.

It's happened with only one or two of my LPs; all others work fine.

I’ve had that issue too. And like @Russ I said, it’s usually an issue with the record not being quite the right size of the edge being cut differently. I forget how other people have solved it in the past (think people had some good fixes). My way to deal with it is pretty silly but it works for me…

Yeah, I tried reversing the side of the record and then tried a second one and they all got stuck.. I even switched out the left wheel with an extra one they gave me with no victory in sight...

Buttttt! You gave me the idea of doing something ridiculously obvious that I should have tried before.. I slightly pulled the left wheel housing out just a tiny bit to make it a more tight fit when placing the record inside and it worked flawlessly! So now i'm wondering if that's just how it was supposed to be and I maybe pushed it all the back on accident on the previous record? I'm not positive but it's back to working so I appreciate the posts yet again.

Hey, whatever works! I'll happily be a silly billy if I don't run into any more issues for awhile!
