It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

Think Man City were fortunate last night - but it seemed to be written in the stars they would do the treble - Arsenal combustion- 15 second wonder goal in the FA Cup and inspired goal keeping ,woodwork and rubbish finishing from Madrid got them thru yesterday- so many players had poor games but they still prevailed - well done them - looking forward to next season

I'm not sure who has the horses to give City a fight but I hope it happens.
I think it could be Arsenal again and maybe Liverpool regain form.

Also if KDB still struggles with injuries as he’s 31 and aging, Gundogan leaving, Bernardo leaving, Laporte leaving, they lose some steam a little bit. I could see them not being as impenetrable as they have been.

Equally Foden developing and getting more experienced. Gvardiol looks nailed on to replace Laporte who, as good as he is, has barely played the last year. Also Pep will likely already have Gundogans replacement lined up either as a transfer or a replacement from within. Is Silva going this year? I know there are rumours most summers but he always seems to stay regardless.

Also Pep has that Fergie like ability to recognise that staying at the top requires a constant low level churn of players to keep the motivation levels high. He’ll be happy to let 3 or 4 leave and to sign younger, hungrier replacements.

I think Arsenal or United are the best chance. Liverpool depends on what they get to fill out the midfield and if VvD returns to form. I think it will be a decent race.

Yeah I don’t doubt he can adapt whoever they bring in. I mean look at their 17/18 lineup vs this years and there’s like 2-3 players who are still there and play consistently.

I actually think for all of your struggles last season you’re closer than us. We had a good season progression wise but it did also take 3 teams having very poor seasons for us to get there. I think we’re likely still 3 or 4 players away from an 11 to compete. Likely 7 or 8 away from a squad.

Another trophy and a more convincing top 4 finish, with a possible outside challenge, are my hopes for next year.

It’s what you get with genius managers who are surrounded with competent administrators. I miss the Fergie years lol. The biggest hope is that Pep is unlikely to do 26 years so the chance is when he leaves.

Possibly. I think no UCL definitely helps put everything into trying to win the league and get top 4. Europa is fine but top 4 and pushing City should be the goals. I'm hopeful getting younger will help but it takes a lot of time to gel and the Machine will just keep rolling.

Also Halaand has looked awkward without KDB, Silva, Gundogan, and Grealish feeding him on a golden platter. Like if they're a tad off and he's forced to handle the ball more he gets flustered

It think the last two games aren’t really a great judgment. He’s a movement based striker and against two deep defences there’s less space for him to move in and his runs will more likely create spaces for others rather than himself. It’s hard to be too critical of someone with 52 goals whilst still at his age and so a big scope for improvement.

Yea I just think his weakness has been exposed and teams can be strategic now that we know he is only part machine and part human. As opposed to full machine lol

I think for majority of the season teams were just throwing shit at him to see what would stick

I don’t know that it’s a weakness per se. He’s played two bigger teams that have sat deep and had the tools to blunt him but his team has still won and the space he’s made dragging the defence has helped. Most teams that played city have done the same and he’s still blown them away.
